For the story on this topic, it was wall to wall anti-catholic shrieking. Charges of dual loyalty on the part of Catholics. Empty rhetorical questions of why we good Americans can't just pay for these things and why do we have to farm it out to some Roman religion that organizes its hierarchy by the size of hat. You know, all kinds of very likely foreign, automated, probably Russian dreck designed to spread dissension and unhappiness among the American people.
Anyway, it did confirm for me the belief that no matter what anybody says and no matter how much time has passed since inauguration day in 1961, the mask of civility that covers up ruling class hatred of Catholicism is always about a week from completely slipping off.
At this rate, it should only be a day or so before that asshole in the White House ™️ publishes one or more of the old libels: comments about the Pope as the "whore of Babylon," about American Catholics as inferior stock drawn from the the shiftless swarthy and intellectually inferior hun and slav peoples; about how Catholics are idolaters with strange medieval rites.
