Cohen already testified that he mortgaged his own home to get the funds for one of the peener payoffs. Trump paid him back later, and those payments are part of the falsified records. They were surely reported as “attorney fees,” or legit things like that. Instead, it was an interest-free loan by a lawyer to a client (unethical and illegal in most states, I’m sure) that was later characterized as an illegal campaign contribution. So it was all kinds of sleazy and dirty. And hiding the transaction is the real problem. It affected tax records and was an illegal method of laundering the money to hide secret adulterous affairs from voters and the media. But maybe Pecker will try to say he donated the $150k personally, not as an illegal campaign contribution, but simply a personal gift to a man he truly loved. But I doubt it.
