I did a little backyard birding this am, trying to amp up a bit my spotting skills for birds in trees. Got lots of trees around the backyard. The bird feeder was active, and I saw a White-Breasted Nuthatch visiting it. I've seen those in the neighborhood before, but not commonly at the feeder. Later, out with the doggy, I was taking in the birdsongs, and heard one I didn't recognize right away. I turn on Merlin and it says Hooded Oriole. Those are migratory, and they're in the area now. But I'd say they're uncommon here in the city. I couldn't see it, though. They frequently like to climb on top of trees or a pole and sing from there, but this guy was apparently somewhere in a big pine tree. My spotting skills failed me there.
Clark Monster gets a crusty nose sometimes. I take a few minutes being momma cat and help him clean his nose from time to time. I noticed that the need for that has stopped. I wonder why. I also regret not having a camera handy when I caught Simba cleaning Clark Monster's nose.
Simba is being a good momma cat but don't tell him that I said that.
