The fact that he could possibly regain power after trying to incite a fucking coup and all of the other illegal shit is such an indictment on this country.

Not to sound paranoid in my first non-comment, but...

I am convinced that Tuberville's refusal to approve high-level military positions is part and parcel with this plan. Hold off as long as possible, wait until Trump declares himself Supreme Leader, and then fill the top level military ranks with loyalists. It's terrifying.

On the one hand, Tuberville is so damned stupid I’m not sure he could come up with a plan like that.

On the other hand, I remember that Tuberville was one of the Senators that TFG tried to call during the insurrection on 1/6.

So…. Maybe you’re being just the right amount of paranoid. Also, welcome to non-commenting!

I blame Heather Cox Richardson for my paranoia - she wrote that it was akin to McConnell holding up judicial nominees during the Obama administration, and the wheels started turning. I agree, Tubs is too stupid to come up with this on his own, and if I'm right, he's getting orders from someone.... Also, do you like my tinfoil hat?

(and thank you for the welcome!)

Yeah, take it seriously?? My heart kinda stood still when I first heard it-- I called my wife, and said WTF???, and she, sensibly, suggested that I simmer down and come on home, we'll figure it out. So.; umm...it's not looking much better!

I think maybe a sticky to the "Notes" page for each article might make this transition smoother?

News flash, Trump has never been subtle about it and the right has been open about it for some time now.

They both want to have a dictator in power for themselves. That dictator can only be Trump in Trump's case, but for the right as a whole they will take anyone that is easy to control and far less troublesome than Trump was.

It sounds like the ghost divorced Trump and hasn’t had a proper lay since. Dear ghosts go fuck trump, please.

What annoys me about this is there are SO MANY disgusting people PAB appointed STILL in the government. But nope, nothing we can do about that because it might appear "improper" even though completely legal and above-board.

“The chances of Trump winning the 2024 election because that’s who the American people chose are slim to none…”

Really? I think his chances are pretty good - he’s got like a 95% chance of getting the nomination if he isn’t dead by then and with voting the way it is (SO WEIRD the Electoral College has never elected a Democrat despite not getting the popular vote, it just seems to be rigged the other way) and with the media hitting the “Joe Biden is senile and feeble, not like that Herculean specimen Donald Trump” line really hard I can see another wave of apathy on the horizon (and throw in the “people just aren’t excited by Joe” factor too). People like to act like Republicans are tired of him but no, they aren’t. Maybe they’re tired of him personally, but they’re not tired of trying to win.

Barring some Black Swan event I give him at least a 40% chance he’ll be our next President so everybody better vote like their lives depend on it.

"SO WEIRD the Electoral College has never elected a Democrat despite not getting the popular vote, it just seems to be rigged the other way" Not at all. The subdivision of the West into numerous small-population states was for the express purpose of giving Republicans more Senate seats and electoral votes: we know this because late-19th-century politicians were not ashamed of saying the quiet part out loud.

"Vote like their lives depend on it" They do!! Voter apathy from Dem voters will assure a Trump victory, because his supporters will turn out 100%

I'm not sure what your stance is. You seem cognisant of the fact that all the bullshit against Biden is bullshit, and yet you persist in maintaining that the electorate is ignorant. Of what, I ask?

This asshole is a threat, but he's not omnipresent, FFS.

The poster is warning about complacency

in 16 we (nation, not we we) were complacent and so many of us did not show up to vote, TFG was elected.

We (nation again) woke up a bit in 20 and voted his ass out.

Poster is merely suggesting complacency is not our friend

This. The people who are convinced Trump is going to be sitting out the 2024 election in a jail cell are kidding themselves.

Trump is going to be the Republican nominee, the only way he won’t be is if he’s dead.

Expand full comment

And if he's dead, there is NO way that it will not be construed as the left's fault. He could have a heart attack while giving a speech surrounded by supporters, and a very large portion of his base would think it was an assassination. Trump will be with us, one way or another, for at least fifty years.

should he regain power, how soon before he floats the notion that he's "owed" the term that was stolen from him?

There will never be another American president not named trump should he ascend to power. Because really, who would stop him?
