The irony is, with the voter trends in his district, he might do even better as a Republican. (He's a well-known DINO anyway.)

Trump clearly misunderstood the deal, thinking that Cuellar would become a Republican IMMEDIATELY instead of waiting until after he had been re-elected.

Don't let Trump's senility fool you into thinking that there wasn't a deal. Cuellar is a Quisling-in-waiting.

A Democrat credibly accused of corruption who double-crosses Trump isn't going to get re-elected LOL

Ward From Cali's avatar

Yeah, I'll take that bet, too. Frankly, I half-believe Trump's rage is totally performative, intended just to make Cuellar look "good" to stupid Democrats who've grown so reactive that they think that anything that pisses off Trump is automatically good.

Marycat2021's avatar

I know it sounds paranoid, but if Cuellar wins reelection (and that’s a big if), he will be an effective spy for the GOP and of course, a perpetual fly in the ointment, another Joe Manchin (whose actions were always in self-interest and the interests of the coal industry).

Ward From Cali's avatar

Probably worse. Manchin would never switch parties to hand over control of his house of Congress to the Republicans. It would have undercut his own power. But I’m pretty sure that's the plan with Cuellar, if it becomes necessary.

Marycat2021's avatar

What does it matter? Manchin blocked important legislation the Democrats wanted to pass. I doubt Cuellar will win, but he has already compromised himself and is a criminal besides.

Ward From Cali's avatar

It matters because there was ONE thing about Manchin that was true and important enough that it managed to put a limit to our ire even in the face of his most infamous offenses: he kept on caucusing with Democrats and kept us in control of the Senate. In may yet be that the best we can realistically hope for in the midterms is nominal control of the House, which allows us to make things hard for MAGA in all sorts of ways without ever passing a piece of legislation. It’d be a real shame to lose that hard-fought win to Cuellar 's treachery.

Mark Linimon's avatar

I'll take that bet.

How does "Mr. Art of the Deal" explain this? Isn't it the other side of deals with him that always get screwed? Those rumors of his galloping descent into senile dementia must have some substance to them. Knock me over with a fucking feather!

Mommadillo's avatar

It hurts the Democrats more having Manchin-esque types like Henry in the party where they can continue to stymie any efforts to give left-leaning voters what they want.

It is said that when one lies down with dogs, they get up with fleas.

This proves that one can just skip the middleman and lie down with fleas.

A lotta fleas.

It's the logic of the wannabe gangster. "Sure, I can do you a favor, get you out of this little bit of trouble you've gotten yourself into, but then I own you."

Marycat2021's avatar

But in this case, one hand does not wash the other.

Cajun Kid's avatar

Okay, so not a burger, but comfort food--gumbo and some mini meat pies incoming!

Wowdad's avatar

Sorry, Donnie. Next time you exchange cash-for-favors be sure to get the details in writing!

Trump really thought that pardoning Rod Blagojevich (I can't be bothered to look it up and spell it right, you know who I mean, the former gov of Illinois) would make the Dems happy? Why would we be happy that he freed criminals who needed to be punished? Why would that make ANYONE happy?

Jamoche's avatar

He thinks everyone is a criminal, they've all been getting away with it so far, and are hoping that when their luck runs out someone like him will pardon them. Not so much happy about the one who got pardoned but what it means for them.

Hollysdower's avatar

So he's pardoning random rich people, who he can sorta relate to, because he thinks it's benevolent? Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Marycat2021's avatar

No. Trump "benevolent" omg really? No one he pardons is random. Trump is transactional and as such, he expects to be repaid.

Remember: IAP - It's Always Projection. Because when he does it for his own band of conservocriminals his base has multiple crimegasms.

Thankfully; I have made it home, where I am about to enjoy some kool aid and, in a while, ordering something cheap for dinner. Like a delicious burger with cheese.

If Texans elect this fuck they deserve whatever they get.

Hollysdower's avatar

Yeah, I'm really worried about this. If Trump can appoint syncophants to The Fed, we are fucked.

Mark Linimon's avatar

ITYM "more fucked".

He could just have them all deported at this point and just skip over the niceties.

OT

Do you know what the differences are between the philosophy of Jesus Christ and the epistemology of Southern Baptist are?

EVERY GOD-DAMED ONE!!!

....just sayun'...

Jamoche's avatar

I asked my grandmother why they'd chosen a Methodist church when my grandfather retired from the military (1939-1972) to a town near Ft Rucker, Alabama: "It was the closest church that wasn't Southern Baptist."

kmblue187's avatar

We should all understand by now Trump's actions are ALWAYS transactional.
