Wouldn't it be possible to just strap a VR headset on Trump's head so he could live out his days in the Overlook Hotel ballroom ? . . .

Stulexington's avatar

No, if the asshole Secretaries he's hired don't have to spend their time trying to manage the Honest Don, they'll have more time to fuck everything up.

gallbladder's avatar

That's what he's doing now.

Still adjusting to dealing with Medicare...been on it for a whole seven months now...

I do this so that people about to turn 65--you're out there, I know--can see what's coming.

My therapist, or rather, my therapist's LLC, charged me for my first two sessions (FWIW, I like my therapist so far), so I am trying to find out what my deductible is so that I know how badly our finances will be soaked before paying 100% becomes paying 20%. Oh, btw, LLC, thanks for the warning about when you'd be snatching your payment from my account. That was a lovely surprise.

Of course, the 'Medicare and You' booklet we get every year was useless, but teh intarwebs got me my answers right away, for a change. Looks like the deductible is all but paid off already, if what I read is correct. Of course, I'll believe it when I'm paying less.

Also too, my old insurance restarted every fiscal year, meaning it resets on July 1st, so I had brief

panic about repeating this scenario with the deductible for one more month. Pro tip: Medicare resets on January 1st.

But, then, I'd be lying if I said I actually understood this mess.

I've been dealing with my intellectually disabled brother getting kicked off Medicaid but will still have Medicare.

Healthcare billing is ridiculous. Some things work, others do not, and you get to find out which is which.

Apparently, "Morning, bitches" isn't an appropriate greeting for your boss and coworkers.

Anyway, got a meeting with HR tomorrow.

nodak. 5150 47's avatar

One morning I walked into the shop, to see the boss and the night shift molding supervisor obviously waiting for me.

"fuck off, assholes" was not quite what they wanted to hear.

But they all knew the rule- give me 5 minutes to get a tank of coffee in my hands before bringing me your fucking disaster.

Stulexington's avatar

Pro tip: it's not a good way to open an HR meeting either.

And here's the payoff ... the "privately funded" ballroom ...

https://bsky.app/profile/acyn.bsky.social/post/3mkj4davlle2b

Lindsey Graham says they are going introduce legislation that’s going to authorize 400 million dollars to be spent on building the ballroom: We pay for it by offsetting it with customs fees. The sooner we get the ballroom built, the better it is for the country.

SkeptiKC's avatar

Americans can't have accessible, affordable medical care or a higher education, but the thoroughly foul and depraved Fetid FASCIST is going to get his $400 million ballroom.

Lindsey Graham can scamper off to hell with bells on his ass and his ankles.

SkeptiKC's avatar

It's just too damned convenient.

nodak. 5150 47's avatar

so what you are saying is that the shooter tried the ballroom blitz?

aktlib101's avatar

Or, maybe the shooter is invested in the ballroom?

Bet on the ballroom to be built?

Drives a cement truck?

So many possibilities, so little time.

gallbladder's avatar

Someone remind me again how many ballroom projects went ahead in the wake of the Kennedy assassination. Go ahead: I've got all fucking night.

Mysterysurf's avatar

Well, presidents did stop riding in open cars after that.

MRK's avatar

Not really. It's not surprising that Trump and the Republicans would capitalize on this to attempt to push one of Trump's obsessions.

The republican bench is deep as America has the highest incarceration rate in the western world.

Marlon Again's avatar

Bitter. Armed. Hurt.

OTOH, WTF. Only a coroner would pull me out of a ditch.

I went to school with Glenn Sweet. He killed a cop over a meth deal, and got the chair in Missouri. One of his tweaked-out girlfriends called me the night before they put him down, insisting that I call the AG and plead for his life.

Thinking about my past lately, people I've known. Meth kings and sinse barons and their coteries...

nodak. 5150 47's avatar

Just thinking about what I've seen.

Thanks for being there, my brother.

“James Talarico didn’t just break records in Texas with Q1 haul, he outraised EVERY Senate campaign across the country,” Abbott said in a campaign news release Monday. “Make no mistake: the $40 MILLION and 540,000 DONORS Talarico has amassed will be unleashed to get Democrats to the polls in every corner of Texas. The Democrats are not sitting this one out. They are targeting our candidates with a level of resources this state has never seen.”

Abbott, who’s neither endorsed Cornyn nor Paxton, is working to help raise money and get Republicans get elected in Texas. He says his mission “is to defend the values that make Texas the greatest state in the nation,” continuing to deliver “on some of the biggest conservative victories in our state’s history.”

Warning: sensitive material

I hate Greg Abbott. I am not someone who hates normally. I hate the rupublicans for making me hate. I hold GA personally responsible for the deaths of these two small children. His actions led with certainty to their drownings.

Those who died were Victerma de la Sancha Cerros, 33; Yorlei Rubi, 10; and Jonathan Agustín Briones de la Sancha, 8, authorities with Mexico’s National Institute of Migration said Monday.

If they do reschedule the WHCA dinner (sorry, “gala,” per NYT), maybe next time journalists could do that thing where they don’t go? At all? The “money for scholarships” has already been raised, right? The honorees know they won awards and surely the actual trophies can be shipped to them if they want them.

RSVP: Sorry, I won’t be able to attend this type of event until there is a ballroom.

gallbladder's avatar

"And I CERTAINLY won't be attending if it's built."

Furiouser and Furiouser's avatar

One of the things about this ridiculous ballroom is how enormous it’s going to be. If you have an event with fewer than a gajillion people it’s going to look like a JD Vance rally, that is, empty and sad.

Lolomg's avatar

From HCR Substack today “This is an odd angle to take, since, as Bluesky user Tom Shafer pointed out, the Hilton ballroom seats 2,945 people and Trump says his proposed ballroom will seat only 999. And to be clear, a judge has permitted the construction of the secure facility under the ballroom to continue despite the lawsuit; it’s just the ballroom itself that’s currently at issue.”

Bruce McCall has things to say (or draw) about absurdly over-sized, empty interiors.

I wonder how big it’ll actually be and how much of the donations Trump’s going to pocket.

Edit: There’s no consistent work up of what the building will look like. All the proposed plans that get leaked are different.

Didn't see this one coming. DOJ not wasting any time - it's like it was a setup.

"The plaintiff in the lawsuit challenging President Donald Trump’s $400 million White House ballroom project on Monday rejected a demand by the Department of Justice to drop that legal challenge in the wake of a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that Trump was evacuated from.

“Your assertion that this lawsuit puts the President’s life at ‘grave risk’ is incorrect and irresponsible,” wrote Gregory Craig, a lawyer for the plaintiff, The National Trust for Historic Preservation, to DOJ Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate."

Angine de Poitrine is what would have happened if Fred Frith had had a looper pedal and a drummer buddy who was as weird as he was. This is really fun music.

jaspersdad's avatar

They were playing them during a sportsnet hockey intermission telecast this past weekend.

I love them! Their music tickles my brain just right, and their weirdness amuses me.

Snarfyguy's avatar

Saw some nerd on Youtube "explain" their music (which was as tedious as it sounds).

Same kind of stuff Captain Beeheart pulled, and exceptionally well done.

Yes! It's a lot jazzier than I first thought. Got both albums from Bandcamp and I listen a lot.

Our_Man_In_Redneckistan's avatar

They’re on Bandcamp? Great tip! Fuck YouTube. Unstable dumbass platform.

Stanta Knows's avatar

Cheap too. They have three items - two albums and a single of Sherpa which is also on part 1. The only difference is it's a higher sample rate (that I can't detect)
