Trump's Own Spy Chiefs Refused To Murder FBI Investigation Into Trump. THANKS A LOT SPY CHIEFS (Really, Thanks!)
Why will no one respect his author-i-tah????
It seems Donald Trump has been working overtime asking all the intelligence agencies to help him TRUMP-SMASH! the FBI's investigation into his (alleged!) collusion with Russia. In February, during a meeting in the Oval Office, Trump begged former FBI director James Comey to please stop investigating his BFF, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who has this week decided to plead the Fifth and ignore the Senate Intelligence Committee's subpoenas for documents related to how he is a literal actual foreign agent . At a dinner in January (Comey had food, Trump had burned steak brick with jellybeans and ice cream), Trump asked Comey to pledge loyalty, by which Trump meant, "Please stop the Trump-Russia investigation." Comey did not obey, going so far in testimony as to confirm there was an FBI Trump-Russia investigation, and in later testimony he said it made him "mildly nauseous" to think his actions involving the Hillary Clinton email investigation might have affected the election outcome.
That is not loyalty! That is not stopping the Trump-Russia investigation! That is not soothing Trump's butthurt insecurity over his weak-ass election "win"! Comey wouldn't even do Trump's bidding and say Barack Obama did "wire tapps" to him!
So anyway Trump fired Comey.
But the Washington Post reports that Comey wasn't the only tree Trump barked up, to try to get the FBI to end its investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign/regime and Russia. In March, after Comey confirmed the existence of the investigation, Trump tried to pressure the NSA director and the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) too, both to make them say Donald J. Trump was NOT under investigation, and also asking if they might just lean on the FBI a tiny bit to kill the investigation. If this is not obstruction of justice, we don't know what is:
Trump made separate appeals to the director of national intelligence, Daniel Coats, and to Adm. Michael S. Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency, urging them to publicly deny the existence of any evidence of collusion during the 2016 election.
Coats and Rogers refused to comply with the requests, which they both deemed to be inappropriate, according to two current and two former officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private communications with the president.
That's right, FUCK OFF. But wait there's more! WaPo, burying the lede at the bottom of its report:
In addition to the requests to Coats and Rogers, senior White House officials sounded out top intelligence officials about the possibility of intervening directly with Comey to encourage the FBI to drop its probe of Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, according to people familiar with the matter. The officials said the White House appeared uncertain about its power to influence the FBI.
“Can we ask him to shut down the investigation? Are you able to assist in this matter?” one official said of the line of questioning from the White House.
The White House was LITERALLY asking intelligence officials if they could give James Comey wedgies until he agreed to shut down his investigation. Like we said, how is that not obstruction of justice? Do words mean things? Does the pope even shit in the woods anymore?
This might be a good time to note that Dan Coats, a former senator from Indiana, was Trump's pick for DNI. The WaPo reminds us that both Coats and Mike Rogers (who was already NSA director when Trump was elected) were contenders for the DNI position. The Obama administration thought Rogers should be fired from the NSA for sucking, but then Rogers went for a private Pussgrab 'n' Chill at Trump Tower during the transition, and Trump decided to keep him on. In other words, these are TRUMP'S OWN GUYS saying, "No do not try to move on me like a bitch and show me the hottest furniture places in town, I AM A MARRIED MAN!" Or, to be more clear, even Trump's guys understand there is a literal fucking wall between the intelligence community and the White House, especially when said White House is under investigation, and You. Do. Not. Do. Shit. Like. This.
WaPo reports that when Trump inappropriately asked Rogers for favors, Rogers wrote all about it in a memo, so HAHA, MEMOS STRIKE AGAIN! It's not known whether Coats did the same thing, but the WaPo has a fun quote about Trump's overture to him:
“The problem wasn’t so much asking them to issue statements, it was asking them to issue false statements about an ongoing investigation,” a former senior intelligence official said of the request to Coats.
See? Trump IS under investigation, and for them to say otherwise would be a L-I-E. (For the record, the same week Trump was obstructing justice with his NSA director and DNI, Sean Spicer said Trump wasn't under investigation, so CASE CLOSED.)
So how many is it now? How many intelligence agencies and elected officials has Trump tried to use to quash the investigation into his alleged Russian high crimes and misdemeanors? In addition to the other things in this story, there was the time White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus begged the FBI to make public statements that the dirty lying press was a dirty liar about Trump and Russia. There was the time Sean Spicer made the same beggy-begs to CIA Director Mike Pompeo, Senator Richard Burr and Congressman Devin Nunes, heads of the Senate and House intelligence committees, respectively. (Richard Burr was like "OK!" Devin Nunes ... oh sweet Jesus, we all knowwhat Devin Nunes did, and we don't really want to relive it right now.)
Look, here is MSNBC's Joy Reid, threading it all together:
Well well well!
TIME FOR THE ENTIRE WHITE HOUSE TO GO TO JAIL YET?
