Not entirely sure how widespread an outrage this is, but the TSA has apparently found some new ways to make air travel just a bit more awful: When Washington DC resident Ashley Brandt was preparing to return home from a Presidents' Day weekend visit to Arizona, the TSA agent at the security checkpoint

On another note... New York was one of the last states to switch to using photo licenses. Mrs._sophist and I were on our long-delayed honeymoon in California in the early 80s when we got proofed at a restaurant. The waitress not only refused to accept our photo-less paper NY driver's licenses as proof, she laughed at the "obvious fakes." She would not believe us when we tried to assure her that they were genuine licenses (and that I really was 29 years old). In fact, she told us that we were going to have to leave (because apparently we were fraudsters) and wouldn't even be allowed to order alcohol-free meals. The outing was saved when a manager overruled her and gave us the OK.
"We get a lot of people from the Pacific islands coming through here with funny-looking IDs, so sorry Ma'am but I'm going to have to have someone review your 'Rhode Island' driver's license."

A few years back, upon entering the SEC headquarters in Washington DC for a meeting, I was asked for photo ID. I produced my US Passport, assuming that was appropriate for entry into a federal office. Nope, sorry, state photo ID required!!!
One might assume that a US Passport was the gold standard of ID, but apparently in the US Capital one would be wrong.

We have to start filing tax returns again so that I can continue to qualify for my health insurance premium subsidy. (Thanks, Obama!)
Which reminds me ... how does the ACA work for residents of the District? Are you covered by it?
Quayle might have misinterpreted it because your state's name wasn't spelled "New Mexicoe."

I thought it was part of the Emirate of Dasani.
A very long time ago, I left the State of Grace. I haven't looked back.
No damn carpetbaggers! Only Alabama's original inhabitants are allowed to vote!

Yeah, but a passport doesn't prove you're not gay!
This isn't complicated. The District of Columbia is between the District of Venezuela and the District of Ecuador.
I believe the President is an alumnus of their university.
Absolutely. No respect for the original settlers.
I used to love those day trips to the District of Peru. A lot of coca products and beautiful mountain views.
You know that saying "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance"?....
Definitely not. If we'd respected the original settlers, it would be called Mogollon or Chiricahua or...
