Most if not all of the historical info re: racism we get taught about in school is focused in the south. I think all of us get stuck on the Civil War in a way. We joke about Southerners who just can't let it go and still hoist the Confederate flag, but we sort of use that to let ourselves off the hook - we're not that overt in our racism, so we must be cool! There's no strict geographic border where racism just stopped.
Yeah, I know- was just indulging in a bit of hopeful thinking. She'll be a tough out, but I think our chances are the best this year they have been in a long while. We'll see...
My Uncle Don was a Chicago cop in the 70s & 80s. He was the most racist person I ever met in my life. He was not the least bit embarrassed by it. There's plenty of racism all over the US.

And I, who read history books for fun, never heard about it until about a decade ago, they do not teach about that in school.
