"Abbott says he’ll keep on demanding the Texas legislature hold special sessions, over and over, until 2028 if he has to, until the Democrats come back and vote. We shall see who wins this standoff."
I've said many times that the GOP will win, BUT HOLD ON. Maybe?....
There are 12 Democrats that didn't flee; 51 who did. Would it be possible for there to be an out-of-town rotation? Maybe those 12 go to (REDACTED) and 12 Democrats come home for a couple weeks. Then those 12 Dems go to (WHO KNOWS) and 12 more Democrats get to come home for a couple weeks. And so on.
Now, maybe THAT could work or at least, keep the Lege out of session for the foreseeable future.
Accusing the Governor , and the Attorney General of Texas of "Buffoonery" just because they regularly do the kind of things buffoons do seems kind of mean.
Does the Texas State Constitution allow the Executive to "fire" and replace elected members of the State Legislative body? I can't imagine that it does
They are SO desperate not to lose control in 2026. Look at the lengths they’re going to. There are million more democrats in Texas than republicons so that tells you Hot Wheels has done a hell of a lot to stay governor and have the Democratic majority forced to be in a “red”state. Hot Wheels is just as fascist as the traitor in the White House is! Too bad that tree didn’t hit him in the head…
There's an important mistake in the article. The seats that are going to be redistricted are US House seats, but the legislators fleeing Texas to break quorum are Texas House members. In other words, their vote doesn't affect their own seats/districts, but rather the seats/districts of the Texas delegation to US House. Except for a laudable selfish interest in maintaining democracy throughout the country, the fleeing legislators have no self-interest in the effects of their actions.
That's true, but read the headline. "[V]ote themselves out of a job" is talking about my situation, not yours. There is, of course, enough skullduggery to go around, unfortunately.
Good news is that Paxton won’t be running for reelection as Attorney General.
Bad news is that he is in a primary contest against Cornyn to be the Republican candidate for US Senate.
More bad news is that Texas State Senator Mayes Middleton (R-Galveston) is favored to be the Republican candidate for AG. He is fucking bad news. Maybe the most batshit right wing nut in the state senate
Good news is that the Democratic candidate will probably (maybe?) former Galveston mayor and attorney Joe Jaworski or Nathan Johnson, currently state senator from Dallas.
Fear of facing Paxton in that primary is apparently one of the reasonss Cornyn got out front there yowling about Kash Patel sending the FBI after the Texas Dems like some slave-catching hounds-baying overseers in the days of the Fugitive Slave Act even though he knows good & well there's no federal cause of action pursuant to which they could be legally apprehended
Not to mention the stupid part -- how is it so hard to find them if they really had grounds when they're right there on television
It was for DonOld's endorsement
Which ... there's just so much yuck there I don't know where to begin
"We've filed a response to Governor Abbott's filing in the Texas Supreme Court. Our response is basically: 'You are stupid. You filed this in the wrong court. You are not the right person to file it. And you filed it in the wrong way.'"
Imagine if Republicans spent even a portion of the time they spent screwing people over and instead used it to do positive things for the country. But of course that will never happen.

Hmmmmm......

Most likely not, but it doesn't seem like they're gonna let that stop them these days.

How is this even a thing? You don’t show up for work and your boss can send the FBI to arrest you?
Further, since when is the Governor the "Boss" of the State Assembly?
See this is what happens when you send a tree to get something done. YOU HAD ONE JOB!!!!!!
He can want all he wants bot gona happen

The bottom line is these people have to be removed like you do with cancer………..
Ta, Marcie. A republic and a democracy, IF we can keep it.

Gov Hot Wheels is talking about removing the Texas House members who have fled and appointing replacements.

Bluto "bullshit".
Y'all seem to have more smoke for Candace Owens (who is Not My Friend) than you do for Greg Abbott, Ken Paxton, and Texas Republicans

Hey M, are those the same clip? Not that I object to moar Wu!
This is, I think, the entire interview between Mr. Wu and Brian Tyler Cohen from which the clips came
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfZHUpJWYuM
Hey, thanks M. Hope to hell Wu can weather the shitstorm, both personal & professional, that's coming his way.

What's in it for them?
