And who can ever forget Eddie the Eagle in a trenchcoat and fedora on a 902-degree day in Brooklyn, skulking around outside of Tish James's residence, mincing around for the cameras?
What was he trying to prove, acting like a very junior G-Man? Damned if I know. But the show was hilarious. Actually, I don't think even he knew what he was doing there.
If the Republican Senators had simply approved him for a job he wasn't qualified for like everyone before him, Chump wouldn't have had to appoint him to two jobs that would result in Ed breaking the law.
"Yet Ed has failed at every step! The upside to incompetent people who have been accepting Russian money is that they are doggedly loyal. The downside is, well, they’re incompetent."
I'd venture to say their incompetence is an upside (for us)
Bet you $1 the dweeb in the background with the bow tie is a card carrying member of the Federalist Society. He is either very very good at tying that thing...or it's a clip on.
Change is coming, we just have to hang on, and reach out to nonMaga neighbors. Sorry for going deep in the rabbit hole, but I want to try to show the light in our current darkness and despair.
The country is already beginning to swing back HARD to the left. History shows that the US swings hard to the left, politically and socially, when the extreme right agenda puts enough people in poverty.
9-10% unemployment is predicted by the end of this year; the gutting of social programs that support food, child care and health care will have widespread effects by November. The health care crisis is affecting the middle class and people over 65. Affordability and the job crisis is zapping millions of Americans right between the eyes. And when the AI bubble fully crashes in the next 18-24 months, the fall out will be worse than the Dot.com crash. Changes in student loan categories are pissing off Gen Alpha and professional organizations, like nurses.
ICE atrocities are happening in Red States, too. Detention centers are being planned in small towns in Red states across the country, and they aren’t having it. I’ve been seeing active resistance to detention centers from those communities in council meetings, they are also protesting to their state and federal legislators. they are also fighting data center development. Shit is getting real for people who have never paid attention - because it’s happening to them.
Polls show R voters that formerly identified as MAGA, are beginning to identify as plain old R’s across income categories. Independents especially aren’t buying what Trump and Congress is selling. Sure, Trump and red states will do their worst voter suppression and intimidation. They’ll contest election results. But it’s not gonna take us by surprise, and most important, white people, especially independents, are favoring Dems in GENERIC races. Their opinion of Dem politicians is really low, but they like what they’re saying a lot more than what’s happening under Republican control.
When I feel hopeless, and my mental depression and physical health spirals and hurts my ability to function, I make playlists of protest and inspiration songs. I blast it thru my 300 watt speakers when I’m home, and when I run errands I crank up the volume. When I see our democracy failing and government sanctioned cruelty, it’s hard to find rays of hope. But I’m an old hippy; a former university professor so I’m a research nerd willing to dig through piles of shit to uncover the prize at the bottom. I’m a student of public health and social history, so I know humanity will make a course correction even if I don’t live to see it.
preciate this. was on a de-esc training tonight and i realized i'm one of THOSE: 130 pounds of spitting blond rage that can karen her way into any confrontation.
My concern is that tidays right wingers aren't like the right wingers of our youth. As much as we disagreed with them in the past, they at least tried to pass some of their worst policies through actual legislation through garnrring public support.
Today, they make no pretense they are doing anything of the sort. ICE is now nothing but an armed paramilitary wing of this administration and Trump us openly saying he will only accept election results if the midterms are "fair", meaning if a Republucan wins.
Do you think public opinion will actually matter when Trump claims the results are "crooked" and Johnson and friends refuse to certify the results pending an "investigation into fraudulent votes"? The Constitution can't protect us in the absence of enforcement of penalties for ignoring it.
Serious question, I would like to hear your analysis, I am trying hard not to be too negative but it is getting harder.
Oh yes, he delayed swearing her in for over a month, even put congress in recess for a total of 2 months to block the Epstein vote. He’s a snake, no doubt, and we have to keep our eye on him. But now he has only two strategies in his playbook to block the House from voting against Trump’s agenda. 1. put the House on recess, to prevent any discharge petition or bill that reps in swing districts may not support from reaching the House floor for a vote. 2. Delay the swearing in of newly elected Dem representatives, which changes his already razor thin margins. He’ll definitely keep trying procedural tactics to maintain control. But Gavin Newsome is playing the same game now, waiting until the last possible day to allow the election for an open Republican seat. So that dog won’t hunt.
But what gives me the most hope is that Republicans in swing districts are now more scared of losing their seat to a Dem than pissing off Trump. Trump’s always threatened them with primary challenges; but they have witnessed the double digit swings in elections across the country and realize just how unpopular this crap is with their constituents. That’s why so many have decided not to run for office again. They’ve decided the odds are too high that they will lose, which is just not fun.
if Dems take back the House with a wide margin in November, Johnson loses all his power and Hakeem Jeffries is the new speaker. If Dems can flip a few R senate seats in November, even if they don’t take control of the Senate, the R’s won’t be able to pull off that election certification bullshit again.
This fight for our democracy requires more frequent awareness and active response by Americans and we’re not used to it. As Trump increases the pain, we’re finding that the resistance also increases. And the resistance is pissed off.
But the House can refuse to seat a winning candidate. I guess that is what I should have said. Remember the representative from Arizona Johnson refused to swear in for months on some bogus reason while he swore in the Republicans within hours of the election?
I can see the GOP pulling that again over "allegations of election fraud". Which of course will be evidence free.
LDF is trying to get people to take the fact that 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐬 (despite a federal law passed in *1996* that makes voting illegal by undocumented immigrants and no sane undocumented immigrant is going to risk a felony indictment by trying to vote illegally - WE DON'T NEED THEM, WE DON'T NEED IT, THAT IS NOT SAID ENOUGH) seriously
but people are putting their fingers in their ears and going "lalalala, I'm not trying to hear it" and REFUSING TO MAKE PLANS TO VOTE
I’ve also been thinking about how many of those new ICE agents are gonna be laid off when the budget is slashed, and it brings my heart joy. Even if the CR passes now, a lot of that funding won’t see the light of day when Dems take back the House.
Greg Abbott has threatened that for the past 2 election cycles, and he does sneaky shit at the last minute. But he doesn’t have enough gun toting monitors to go around, especially since some traditionally safe R seats aren’t safe anymore. And we’re on to him now, we have no delusions, more grassroots participation.

Ta, Marcie. I'd call them a confederacy of dunces, but they don't deserve the title of such a great book.
Seems like Moscow Ed might be a good candidate for a treason charge?
If the Republican Senators had simply approved him for a job he wasn't qualified for like everyone before him, Chump wouldn't have had to appoint him to two jobs that would result in Ed breaking the law.
Look what you Senate Republicans made them do!
Ed "Shart in a Suit " Martin...

I was gonna say... The only thing saving us from the really horrible shit they could do is that they're just monumentally *bad* at it.
Wow. I’m starting to get the feeling that all of Krasnov’s attorneys such at their jobs.

He should be disbarred ASAP.
If Dems ever regain power, Ed Martin is definitely in the deck of cards for meathook destiny.
A legal eagle he is not. More like a legal Sméagol
"Lucky break, Adam Schiff!" Psst! Per Presidential decree, it's spelled SCHITT!

Johnson has no role. This (vote certification) is a state function. Yes there's opportunitity for fuckery but not so much as you imagine.

The trump administration is setting up a Slow Horses office? Maybe it will make a good TV series.
No one any near that level of competence is in this Administration...
The Three Stooges meets The A Team.
They may be evil, but fortunately for us, they're also stupid.
Step on their short dicks an amazing amount of time, considering...
