"stewardesses"? Don't you mean flight attendants? And "waitresses"? Come on, really.

You ignored the fact that both male and female workers are being affected by Trump's bullshit.

Anyway, who didn't see it coming? Obviously Congress didn't give a shit and they've allowed Trump to fuck over the farmers and, by extension, all of us who eat food in America and the people who have worked the fields and factories for low pay and poor working conditions. Steaks are selling in my local supermarket for $50 each, and ground beef will set you back $8 a pound.

He doesn't need their votes, so maybe NO bailout?

Marycat2021's avatar

And how long before we have no elections at all?

Trump apparently didn’t just throw money at them; he made it easier to exploit farm workers. The farmers who voted for him like that.

"Of course Trump knew full well this was going to happen, because it happened in his first term too: He levied tariffs, farm bankruptcies reached the highest level in a decade, and he ended up giving farmers a $16 billion bailout."

That's funny - the Mad King doesn't apply knowledge or reason to any of his actions, his world is pure id, "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing".

The idiot farmers are fucked and so are we. Time to lay out next year's "victory garden".

Farmers’ pronouns: Was/Were

This gets to my feeling that this is all just a big tragicomedy and that moments like this, sad as they are, are also worthy of a chuckle. Or as my dad used to say, "American voters consistently vote against their own self-interest out of animosity for others."

Ta, Marcie. To quote Machine Gun Joe Viturbo in Death Race 2000, it's gonna be one big victory for hate. That's what they wanted; that's what they got.

Don't get your hopes up. Those soybeans are rotting in their bins.

If we were cynical, it might seem like a ploy to make farmland real cheap so big agribusiness can buy it all up.

So are we going to see scenes like this one?

Just gonna throw this out there. If your farm has its own swag, you’re not a poor beleaguered small farmer, you’re an agribusiness millionaire asking for corporate handouts, my dude.

Nationalize the farms. We've bought them twice now through the bailouts, and FOREVER through subsidies.

Marycat2021's avatar

And who will pick the crops?

Agent of Chaotic Respite's avatar

I suggest ICE be reassigned. They are helping make the problem; let them help solve it.

Does Grassley realize he's been played by the PE crowd, looking for foreclosures? That he has sold his own out?

Lil Snot's avatar

The trump administration is throwing money around like a horde of billionaires getting married for the 2nd ( 3rd? 4th?) Time. No doubt farmers will get bailouts and those of us who want to INVEST in our people will be left holding the check....

MrEes's avatar

Big agribusiness “farmers” will get bailed out. Actual farmers will either be forced to sell the farm, or will end up buying the farm, so to speak.

Except that I would definitely be shot, I would happily drive around the Midwest in a truck with a huge sign saying IF HARRIS WERE PRESIDENT YOU'D STILL HAVE YOUR FARM

pay a pilot to fly that behind an airplane

Blue states should set up funds to buy the land of failed farmers and then let them work the land as sharecroppers. They want to live like in old times so we should help them and make a profit off them

This quote by Chuck "DumbFuck" Grassley is a grammatical non-sequiter when viewed with the rest of his quote. "There should be tariffs on things that you can’t get in the United States."

He either meant to say "there should be tariffs on things you CAN get in the United States" (which would promote That Idiot's But American policy). Or he meant "there SHOULDN'T be tariffs on things you can't get in the United States" because that makes it more expensive for Americans when the US doesn't produce (or manufacture) one tenth of the goods and products it actually uses.

Today is Chuck Grassley's birthday. He is 92 years old. He is fourth in line to the Presidency.

Are you going to say, in this timeline, that being fourth in line for the Presidency isn't a worry because it'll never get that far?

fair_n_hite_451's avatar

Would never say that. Of course it's a worry. Likely doesn't even make the Top 100 for most people however.
