Those noted union-busters, Henry Ford, and the head of his "Service Department," Harry Bennett, must be spinning in their graves.
To their limited credit, when Michael Moore did a movie where he challenged GM bigshots to change the oil on one of their cars or trucks, the CEO of Ford took Moore up.
On-camera, wearing the union jacket he'd been given after the contract-signing, the Ford bigshot (I forget his name), sauntered into a factory garage, slid under a gleaming Ford Bronco, and changed the oil with great dexterity.
After the oil change, he talked up the Bronco and Ford's role as an employer with some skill, giving the company line. I admit, I was impressed. Given that Ford had donated to Jewish charities in the last 70 years and invested in Israel as well, I was impressed.
Moore asked, "At Ford, you say 'Quality is Job One. What's Job Two?'"
The Ford guy puzzled over that for a bit, and answered, "We don't think about that."
In 1947, Henry Ford viewed US Army and British Royal Army Signal Corps footage of the liberated Nazi concentration camps, seeing for himself what the results of Hitler's -- and his -- anti-Semitic rhetoric had actually amounted to.
Ford, a lifelong pacifist, was so horrified and stunned by what he saw and his lifelong stupidity and racism, he suffered the first of the series of strokes that killed him a year later.
I'm a truck guy. I like my F150 a lot. It's a tool, and a good one. So were the Dodges I had most recently. Used to be the Big 3 were the only makers of full-sized trucks, and I'll stick with them. Until someone brings to market a midsized electric truck, that is. I've reserved an Alpha Wolf, but I may die waiting for it.
I don't have Rivian money. Honestly, I probably don't have Alpha Wolf money, either. The thing I like about the Wolf is that they're the only ones that say they're building a standard cab truck. I refuse to buy a 4-door. It's visceral. I hate them, and I hate that the manufacturers insist they're only giving us what we want. No, they're "giving" us what makes them the most money, and they have for years.
According to new Speaker Mike Johnson, mass shootings are a result of the cultural revolution of the 1960s, complaining that “no fault” divorces became legal and schools embraced the teaching of evolution. Story and clip.
Look, it's just a well-known fact that all these mass shooters were motivated by the fact that we pulled out of Vietnam and let women in the workplace.
I like the way he says he believes that any aid to Ukraine needs to tightly monitored, but we can just throw cash (as usual) at Israel and Taiwan with no strings of any kind.
Whew, I was afraid it was increased alienation due to siloed communities, lack of mental health care, increased worship of violence and ready access to guns for anyone determined enough to get them. I'm glad it turned out to just be women getting divorces easy peasy.
Capitalism doesn't really work very well without robust unions. And a party or parties that offer robust support, and are ideologically close. It's a tragedy that it's taken decades to relearn this basic lesson in the US. Could have just looked at W. Europe, Australia, Canada.
The US is like a teenager. Convinced we're immortal and always, ALWAYS correct. We can't possibly learn from the mistakes or examples of our forebears or peers.
They basically want to double-dip on the tax credits. Once for recycling the heat (which they already get) and once for selling it to someone else. I say they should be charged $1 million per day for wasting everyone's time and the House bill authors censured for failing to respect how things work.
OT cat stuff: since there is no pic and we are too lazy to clic, you know that thing cats do where they are licking their butts, but then they forget they are licking their butts and just keep sticking their leg up in the air like a crazy person? Like a blep, but with LEG
My question is, why do they pause and do that while in the middle of a hunting play session? Like, our cat will be murdering a toy mouse as if it's a real one, then ... OK hang on, gotta lick my butt for a minute ...
Honda isn't unionized? Crap now I have to buy Fords again.
FORD = Fix Or Repair Daily.
Ta, Robyn. Let's see what my Union can get from my notoriously tight-fisted employer. Solidarity forever.

Karmic justice, I guess.
Wonderful news! I hope that Stellantis and GM will begin working with the union as well.
So Republican plans to destroy the Democrats in Michigan by hating on the UAW will be not so much?
The workers getting an immediate 85% raise are probably doing backflips right now!
Yeah, that one got me. I audibly guffawed when I read it.
But seriously, I can't think of a time in my life when an 85% raise would have been anything less than incredible news.

Excellent work, Union Folk. You set an example for us all.
OK Ford, please just make a car that is in the ballpark of being decent and I will buy it over the non-union brands, but you gotta meet me halfway.

How about a nice, peppy, fun car named after a lively beast like, oh, say, a pinto . . .
Oh wait.
Too soon?
My daughter's 2022 Maverick is awesome.
used to have a Ranger a late 80's Ranger and it was great too and I'll admit the Maverick does look good.
She got clocked doing 83 in a 70. Trooper was pretty decent about it, gave her a ticket and said, "Nice truck. How's the gas mileage?"
She bought the Maverick to replace her 2000 Ranger! :)
I just want a decent, smallish car. Not an SUV or a truck. American manufacturers don't really make regular cars anymore, you have to want a Canyonero
I want an electric wagon.
THAT!
I just renovated my hardy Bug because trying to find a city car now is a fool's errand.
My 2002 F-150 runs great with a minimum of maintenance.
Shawn Fain has his shit together. The strike has been executed with surgical precision. I hope the UAW get what they deserve.
Biden’s support helped
(checks Villager notes) "That can't be right, he's too old!"
There was something about shoes as well!
Oh my god, BIDEN wears SHOES?!
OT: What a fucking tool.

I thought it was from cats and dogs living together under one roof as I believe in Ghostbusters/sn
That explains why so many mass shooters are carrying "The Origin of Species "...
Dude actually demonized peace
Look, it's just a well-known fact that all these mass shooters were motivated by the fact that we pulled out of Vietnam and let women in the workplace.
Pffft!
There's no PROFITS in peace!

Just imagine the chaos if we let those ladies vote!
This motherfucker is a Christofascist nightmare and we're stuck with him until November.
Or until he does something Gary’s or Bobert doesn’t like or he pisses off orange Mussolini.
I KNEW it was those damn hooors! JFC.

Here we have another Rethug who slept throughout the entirety of US history in school.
He learned all the history he needs in Sunday School.

Or—and hear me out on this—coal companies can go fuck themselves.
I like this idea the best!
Because Big Coal needs a tax break
Big Fossil is watching you.
I'm not petrified, you are.
I see what you did there, and I like it!!! ;-)
Are you trying to say my comment rocks?
Not only does it rock, it rolls as well. ;-)
bitumen or anthracite?
I just really cannot stand it...
I see what you did there. You're probably pretty Proud about that, aren't you? (You made me snicker, thanks.)

I had a cat who would forget to put the first leg down when moving on to the other one. Double-legged blep. Very provocative.
hahaha
Playing the cello!
My question is, why do they pause and do that while in the middle of a hunting play session? Like, our cat will be murdering a toy mouse as if it's a real one, then ... OK hang on, gotta lick my butt for a minute ...
OMG that’s perfect!
