I just received UPS package--value $408 that was dropped off by my gate which is out of sight of my house and IT TOOK ALMOST 2 HOURS TO SEND ME A NOTICE OF DELIVERY--one time it took 6 hours to get a notice, plenty of time for it to get stolen. I have this feeling that canning 12,000 workers isn't going to make things better

Fuck UPS.

So rather that let the cost of having trucks with HVAC eat into their precious $9.9 billion in profits they decide to punish 12,000 workers for being so whiny about being hot and/or cold.

Bet their CEO has no idea how much a banana costs.

UPS is headquartered in the North Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs. A lot of the workers there will be affected.

When speaking of Finkelstein, the words hubris, brutal stupid, and narcissist variants still need to be added.

"Quite frankly, the Right is better organized than we are right now, in terms of being determined to get their message out there and give platforms and attention to people on their side."

Robyn, the right has been better organized and funded for DECADES. Rich libs are cheapskates and very short-sighted.

It would have been nice if the proven rapist Defendant "Vermin" Trump had been consistent and instead of meeting with the Teamsters, he meat with their non-unionized Mexican equivalents in t-shirts that said "Teamsters for Trump" the way he supported the UAW strike.

If only they had worked harder and crossed $10-billion, everyone would have gotten a cookie!

I hope someone got fired for this.

Oh, wait, 12,000 did.

"But don’t worry too much about CEO Carol Tomé, who raked in $19 million in 2022 and 27 million in 2021. She will be just fine!"

My Republican Mother told me that the autoworkers were making too much money. I said "weirdly, I never hear you say anything about the CEO of GM making $33 million a year." Personally, I think she could PROBABLY get by on a measly $12 million a year, or $250K a week, or $50K per day, or $6000 per hour. I feel like I'd be willing to do that job for $6000 per hour.

How hard can it be? The CEO of Tesla has four other CEO jobs and I bet he never works for more than about 2 hours a day.

Seriously! Jack Welch was considered a managerial genius - he played golf all day while recruiting people to run GE's businesses. So his genius was hiring people. Hard work, IF you can get it.

I don't even think it's that he wants to look like he cares about working class people. It's that unions, both in the 70s where his brain is frozen and in the case of the Teamsters even now, represent *power*. The Teamsters are tough guys! Union wise guys put guys under stadiums! He wants to be seen to be buddy-buddy with *powerful* guys, especially ones who have that whiff of organized crime (again, brain stuck in 1975) that he remembers from his youth in Queens.

Has he reached out to the Hell's Angels? Given their history, I'd think they might support him. That's almost like a union, right?

Laying off 12,000 workers at say $60,000 per worker (don't know average) is saving them $720 million and they had profits of under $10 billion. Tell me something is wrong here. Thanks Robyn!

What fascinates me about American capitalism is that it’s ok for the people at the top to be greedy. In fact, greed is the ONzlY virtue.

But if you’re not at the top then you need to shut up and know your place, don’t ask for anything, and never complain. They call this “the grind”.

A mentality persists in America that insists everyone remember their "place".

Can't imagine where that could've originated...

This issue isn’t so much keeping a place, it’s having a place, that will be there tomorrow and the day after. It’s a glimmer of security. People who refuse to keep their place ruin the hope of security through place for everybody.

It's just feudalism with new accessories and terminology.

I had an experience in about 1989 when I saw a production of a Shakespeare comedy one night. The usual plot; Duke comes out surrounded by flatterers and decries the current calamity. They all leave, and the low-born come in, hilarity ensues, the problem gets worse and then gets figured out. Duke comes back at the end with the same flatterers and expresses his delight that all that got worked out.

Next morning, I went to work. I had to go to a convention center ballroom, where rehearsals were underway for a corporate meeting. The CEO came out, surrounded by flatterers, and decried the current calamity. They left, and his subordinates gave their presentations on what they were going to do about it all. The CEO came back to button it all up, expressing his delight that they've figured out what to do.

Gigantic lightbulb went on over my head.

speaking of labor and bearing false witness and also the demolition of psy ops level absolute BS - this feels like a good anti-psy-ops message w/which to open Black History Month

"Dear @NikkiHaley,

President Obama did not divide the country. The racist rectum of America divided the country when they freaked out about having a Black president. Also, in their eyes, something is not white with you either. The more you realize this, the more you may reach."
