There was some doom-posting under another story regarding the midterms, and not to be a Pollyanna here, but I can't help but think that if we can get to the summer appropriately mollified from the "hot vaxx" bullshit of 2021, there will be some real excitement about what Ol' Handsome and co. managed to pull off, especially if he can cap it off with much needed infusion of compassion and competency with the new SCOTUS nom. I'm not ready to give up on House or Senate, and barring some bullshit from the media or a killer variant that wipes out summer 2022, there might be hope yet. A dreary January doesn't mean we need to accept a grim November.
"I hate these economic pronouncements. Real measures, like the UNDERemployment of millions of workers who can't live on what they make, are not spoken about. Crappy job growth is celebrated."
Granted that people should be paid at least enough to live on, and preferably enough to thrive on, but that's somewhat of a separate topic.
With that having been said, and with all due respect, I cannot help but feel that this is the sort of attitude that illustrates why Democrats never get anywhere. Republicans, however disgusting and downright evil they may be, cannot blow each other ENOUGH, in contrast with the Dems, who constantly nitpick themselves and each other. If ANY Republican Prez had enjoyed record growth, and/or if any Democratic Prez had been in office during job LOSS, we would be hearing about it daily until the end of time -- and if either weren't true, they would lie and say it was, anyway.Whereas, this situation is like:Literally anybody: What has Biden accomplished?Staisticians: Record economic growth.Literally anybody: No, not like that.
Inflation is killing me, but I'm not an idiot so I know Biden has nothing to do with any of it. If it keeps up It will be time to make some hard choices.
As you know, I am old, and think old, as I am old school in my learning as well. A note of caution here, I did not go to any Ivy League school. Or even Wharton. So most Rs I meet tend to cast doubt and aspersions on what I proclaim as facts
But I seem to recall from history and econ that from the 18th C to 1929, we had a lots of economic problems from time to time. Some disasters. Most were called "panics." A panic in those days was an economic crash of some type; land, commodities, stocks, bonds, prices, markets, trade, and when one big thing crashes, sooner or later, the rest of the economy follows suit. The panic part is say you buy something for $2. It goes to $3. You think you are shittin' in tall cotton! But one morning the price is $2, and dropping by the minute. You try to sell, nope, try again, nope, price below $1.75, every second costs you real money you once had. Or at least borrowed. Which will be worse for you. So you are shittin' you're pants. Panic City. I think this word is now banned by Rs, as no one uses it any more.
Not gonna say here Keynesian economics is the best all and be all for all crashes. But someone's gotta create demand. We all pay taxes. We are the country. And the govt, smart or dumb, is from us. So sometimes we need to pick up our neighbor's sword and shield and take him to the next town. We will need him. And millions like him.
Me I thought we learned this from the Great Depression. The crashes of the 1970s, and 80s (supply side). Voodoo Economics by 1991. Gave us Bubba. . 2000 crash. More bs, by 2007, another crash. Gave us Bammmerz. So much bs from Rs on CNBC during crashes, I switch to TCM until someone that's not lying comes on.
Yes, I see a hand up. A question or comment? "Yes, just curious, exactly just where did you go to school?"Ha! Well, but here's a clue. Our mascot is a Greek warrior with sword and shield riding a white horse.
You haven't read Eric Loomis, have you?.Workers who have the support of government and courts - local, state, and Federal - make much more progress than "them working on their initiative". Certainly much more than when those factors are working against them (see Republicans). You can always learn something if you want to. Biden has often said he wants to be the most pro-labor president. "Labor will always be welcome". My John Deere friend (30 years with them) certainly appreciated Fightin' Joe's comments and support as part of the mix during that strike.
It's not a real headline, as far as I'm aware. The NYT is itself the joke, and its place in the media...what, zeitgeist? Am I allowed to say that unironically? Whatever. Something something NYT something fascist enablers something punchline. Emphasis on punch.

Oh look, a public school library in Tennessee.
It is? I guessed right?
Trump needs no help in that department.

Apparently, it is a lottery-funded library in South Africa that may have a few issues. Or did so in 2019. https://www.groundup.org.za...
Nah, Tennessee's school library shelves are packed. They've got all the latest Chick Tracts.
He's more stent than tapioca!
One of Ted Cruz' boogers?
"Our spoons have no effect on him!"

That's all I gotta say abut that.
Soon enough.
