Those old trucks will have two major fates. One is conversion into cool micro dwellings for nomads and homeless people, and two is being melted down and made into new Toyota Priuses.
Micro dwellings was my first thought as well. There are SO many YT vids on ways people have adapted vehicles to living spaces. A USPS truck could indeed become a home on wheels, even if it never went anywhere.
I didn’t realize it, but just reading about it, the old Grumman trucks are made of aluminum and weigh between a typical sedan or minivan. Wonder about conversion cost.
The Post office needs to open a public-owned version of Amazon... a 'US Marketplace' where US-based vendors can sell wares, where US buyers would be protected by Federal Mail Fraud laws, where delivery will be available only via USPS. It would do soooooo many good things (including act as a damper on Amazon's monopoly) that it's kinda crazy we haven't done it yet...
Online retailers would put a stop to that fast. PMG Dejoy in a joint proposal by the Clerk union tried a pilot program in one area to offer prepaid visa gift cards at the register. They sold six the first day before he was dragged before a congressional committee lead by Republicans demanding cease and desist. The banking lobby wasted no time.
For everything. I have a Thunderstruck 10kw main motor and 248 AH of 48V of AGM Battery power plus a 12v 100 AH House battery for lights and some other accessories. I've added a 1,000 watt pure sine inverter to the 12v battery for electronic use off shore power and will eventually add a 3000 watt PS inverter/ charger/ solar controller for the 48v battery bank and use the 12v as back up. 700 to 800 watts of 36v Solar Panels will provide offshore power along with a 3500 watt gas generator I already have.
Glad to see the Fed Govt stepping up in the global warming fight. They're probably the biggest polluters, between the cars, offices, military fuel and mining needs, data processing, etc. I would like to see every agency's budget, going forward, putting some money towards rooftop solar/wind/or green space, rain retention for waste use, ev fleets, heat pumps, etc.
They carry coolers full of ice and soaked towels, and in the particularly hot months they use oven mits to open metal mailboxes because the handles will burn if they don't.
Ta, Dok. The greening of the Fed continues apace, and not a moment too soon.
Vlad the Impala. I am dead. 😆
I loved it when Dylan went electric
I love me the USPS, but does it have to talk like AI? What human says, writes, or thinks the words "...generate significant efficiencies..."?
Louis DeJoy, you tell me? Oh. Okay. Now tell me WHY does he still have that job?
And FUCK LOUIS DEJOY, the US Postmaster Genital
We protested at his residence when he was trying to fuck mail in voting. It’s like a third world dictator compound in front of a golf course.
Because of course it is. 🙄
"Like"?
And thank you for your service to America.
"The carbon cost of carrying all those abbreviations around is likely to be negligible, thanks to EVs."
I love you guys.

from military contractor Oshkosh (b'gosh)
Did Dok really write this? And NOT include (b'gosh)?
That's funny. When I think of Oshkosh, I think of the EAA Fly-In. Different strokes.
B'Gosh!
"...why does he still have a job..."
That's it--why?

A postal savings bank would be a good first step.
Government competing with private industry? The horror!

SoCHaLiZmS!
>> Maybe after a great big mail truck demolition derby. <<
Pinky Tuscadero FTW!
Also, contracts like this will make prices go down on components like batteries and inverters which is good news for my electric sailboat conversion!
For auxiliary motive power, or cabin/running lights, or both? Tell me more!
Here's a link to my YouTube channel about it.

LED lights, insulation improvement, green windows, recycle/compost bins...
Jesus, how do postal delivery drivers in Arizona fucking survive driving around without AC?
I asked my awesome mail guy about it and the Southwest is at the bottom of the ev list because rural. It's fucking brutal what they do.

Suck it, dejoy.
Make him say "reduced carbon emissions!"
...so I can watch his face and laugh.
Say it!
