A failure he can't just walk away from unscathed while everyone else takes a bath due to his incompetence. He never wanted any of this shit. He just wanted to up his brand image so he could start a cable TV channel.

I worked for the elected official (a Republican) who files the incorporation papers for businesses and non profit entities at the state level. After eight years in that office (and term-limited out), he ran for governor.

He inherited his office from a Democrat who'd also been in for eight years. When the R took office, it took 3-5 business days to process and mail out the official confirmation that a corporation had been formed. This was a world of mainframes, typewriters, and microfilm storage. Eight years later, as he ran for Governor, that same filing, now using computers for processing, imaging, and storage (but before online access to information), that same filing took 12 weeks to process.

His Democratic opponent lost his reelection bid four years prior when, even though ahead by double digits in the polls, he went negative against his opponent, and it blew up in his face. He was afraid to go negative again after that incident and, even though he had these numbers that showed how thoroughly his opponent had screwed the pooch in his current job, he never went after him for that. The Republican won.

He went on to serve eight years, screw the state up beyond recognition, and become the first sitting governor in the state's history to be indicted while in office.

Mnuchin was merely "using several mathematical examples to illustrate potential risk if there was no intervention," a Treasury Department official told CNN at the time.

Or if Donald Trump was in charge of the intervention.

Maybe part of that is because lots of folks realize it's never been "his" economy, just one he inherited from President Obama.

In Carville's old book ("Had Enough?", '03) he posts a chart (page 87) showing that that EVERY Democratic president had better job creation numbers than EVERY Republican president. It goes back to Coolidge and yes, Carter is included in those figures. Actually Carter had plus 3.1% as compared to immediate successor Reagan's 2.1.

Every Democrat has also had better deficit reduction numbers, too. Reagan is still the biggest deficit spender of them all - he tripled the national debt.
