As someone who has devoted a significant amount of his life to education, I can say with total confidence that most school administrators would rather take their chances with a teacher getting shot rather than take preventive action that might upset the parents.
Honestly there is going to be a good argument that getting shot is an expected work risk. As teachers, we go through active shooter drills every month. It doesn't make it less fucked up,but when you take a job where you regularly prepare for someone to come in shooting, then an argument can definitely be made that this is an expected risk of the job.
I reluctantly agree. We've reached a point where getting shot and contracting a deadly virus from an unmasked/unvaccinated student are both expected ways a teacher might die.
Wait a minute, so the school was warned 3 times that a kid with an ACUTE DISABILITY who normally requires a parent's presence, HAD A GUN?!!?!?? And did NOTHING?¿!!!?!?!
I'm not saying a kid with developmental issues should be treated like some sort of assumed criminal, but you might want to get right on it if you are warned that that kid has got a gun. THREEE TIMES!!
Any news involving school shootings makes my heart skip several beats. As I've mentioned the Mild Jrs are middle school teachers. On Mrs Mild's side of the family are several nieces who are teachers in various schools in MA, MN, and VA.
Mild Jr (who is Latino) was hired partly to shake things up at his middle school. He's done quite a bit in the almost 4 years he's been there. Recently as part of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team his suggestions to the administration have been greeted with, Thanks, We'll think about it.

Abby Zwerner has sued the Newport News school board for $40 million.
This being a public school district, I assume that's about three times their annual budget?
"If every teacher was armed, then she could have shot back and this way, whatever children still survived would be ready for real life in America"

Child labor laws used to bar six-year-olds from serving in a well-organized militia.
Nah, it matches thr compensation of the administration

Absolutely.
I read Redneck for Richneck.
Yesterday I learned that when someone's name also describes them like Coward the lawyer or a politician named Crooked it is called an aptonym.
You're welcome.

Sorry for shouting.
