I can not hear the name 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘢 without mentally adding 𝘒𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘬𝘪 and thinking Tennessee Williams and 𝘈 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘤𝘢𝘳 𝘕𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘳𝘦...

Reminds me of neighbor dog! When we lived back on the farm among the trees, our principle crop was leaves. Like FEET of them. I would rake mazes through them for the kids and of course, the big pile. Neighbor dog would sit patiently by while I made the pile and then Leeeaaaappppp into it the second I put the rake down

Answer the damn question, Hakeem.

"“Why does universal health care keep getting sidelined by party leadership?”

Jeffries gives a misleading word salad answer to a direct question 🤔

Medicare for all. NOW. Any potential Speaker should guarantee it will get a vote.

Make Trump veto it. (He may not)"

Also I'm eye rolling at a handful of people shouting some of the Dems' best show horses for leadership in the chambers. No. That is a WORKHORSE job. It is a waste of Raskin or AOC or any of the other firebrands to stick them in admin.

The job is to manage getting as much shit done as possible in limited time. Senate leader especially needs to be a master of procedure and rules.

Van Hollen is the only remotely sensible name I've seen the internet throw around, and AES had to hand it to them (I still think Schatz is more likely). Bernie is staying head of budget, as he should. Murray is staying head of appropriations. Warren is going to chair banking (which has a broad reach, actually). Blumenthal is gonna stick to investigations because he's really doing well on working to unfuck healthcare. Booker is going to stay a firebrand and probably go for the presidency again. I don't even think any of them will RUN for leader outside maaaaybe Booker if somehow something gets weird.

Workhorses, people. You want a good administrator. That is the gig. YES that makes it harder for the masses to guess who b/c they pick the show horses who are better at other things and better known. But it's what we need.

This has been a great week. I haven't been this happy in quite some time. I was a poll worker for the midterms, and it was exhausting, but worthwhile. We had a three-page ballot because, in addition to the governor's race (won by the incumbent, Maura Healy, who also handed out candy on Halloween from her home in Arlington, MA, a five-minute walk from my house), there were 9 ballot questions. Big turnout, even though the outcome was no surprise. Totally off topic: Boston's Logan Airport held a contest for the Voice of Logan. The winner will record greetings to welcome people to MA and make various other announcements over the PA system. Out of 6,000 video entries, the winner was Christopher Donisi, a native of (East) Arlington --my neighborhood. My daughter tells me Chris's brother was in her graduating class at Arlington High. Yay for us!

It's been a revelation watching political debates go on with a gay couple I know where there is a nearly 40-year age difference between the two of them. They're in LA, so this primarily manifested itself in a Bass-Raman split. But watching them find common ground has given me all kinds of hope. Young people have a lot to learn from older people, but more importantly, older people have a megafuckton to learn from younger people.

I said, in reference to Schumer and Jeffries, I used the word spinelessness. I misspoke. It's not spineless at all, not remotely, to protect the old guard. It takes great fortitude to be the face that insists on more of the same. To be accurate, they are simply there to protect the status quo as much as they can. Defending that with imaginary behind the scenes scenarios, imagined strength, while all they have shown is support for genocide and milquetoast, takes some real trickery of what the evidence shows.
