Even if you're a full-on socialist like Bernie Sanders (or our beloved and esteemed Editrix, may she live a thousand years), there's a good chance you think the US Post Office is hemorrhaging money. But that's because you're not as awesome as Bernie Sanders, who sent us a nice email this afternoon about the Post Office that didn't even make us pass out from boredom. Part of it said:
This is, of course, true. They are cheaper than FEDEXUPS, and of course also carry all that trash that the private carriers can't be bothered with.
Actually, the 5 billion a year to prefund the preborn retirees IS the problem. Well, and the fact that fucking Congress has to approve postage rates, even though the general fund doesn't contribute squat to the USPS.
Was Congress trying to knee-cap Big Government by killing the Post-Office? This pre-dated Obama so didn't they have something else they could have been doing? Like making it difficult for people to spay or neuter their pets?
What a bizarre and ridiculous requirement for funding pensions. Couldn't the retirees just go bankrupt like people who work for private companies with shitty pension investment plans?
As former member of Branch 47 of the National Association of Letter Carriers and collector of Napa Cabernets and Central Coast Pinots, I fully support Senator Saunders' initiative! Of course it's already legal here in Colly-fornya.
Now if he could just get rid of that pesky "adult signature" requirement for hootch deliveries...
Bernie Sanders transcends time and space for the state of Vermont. And he'd better not get old and die, we just can't afford his loss on a national level.
The GOP set up this 'prefunding' to get rid of the Post Office or at least the union. Since the Silk Road is apparently back up I'd be delighted to have some kind bud delivered to my door along with some high IPA beer. And copies of The Nation, In These Times etc.
Nonsense. Mine gives treats to my beastie. But then so does the UPS guy. Not the Fed-Ex driver though. He justs looks kinda nervous when the pretty princess starts baying like a blood hound.
I saw the photo and wondered why the late lamented Michael Foot was in the news. I guess all good, white-haired socialists with glasses look the same to me. I probably need some kind of sensitivity training. Or glasses.
that chairman thing - gov't subsidized wine - was pretty sweet.
Don't you get it at work?

Not so much knee-capping Big Gov as doing a solid for their owners in Big Shipping. This was just before the 2006 elections.
A missed opportunity in the 2008-9 Congress would have been to undo this shit.

When did Professor Irwin Corey change his name and get elected to the Senate from Vermont?

If Washington and Colorado could ship weed through the mail, time to short FedEx stock.

That makes it all the sweeter!
It's never gonna be really profitable til it starts shipping meth.
