Though it's about the smallest annoyance from 45, it always chaffed a bit to see that draft dodging piece of shit salute the flag. Active duty service members, veterans... hell, even scouts in uniform are allowed to salute old glory. That orange trash bin is none of those, and I bet he still does it.

Saying "At ease" would not make sense if I were a civilian and not above the person in the hierarchy of command. I would have no right to give them orders of any kind.

According to your logic it would likely be rude of me not to curtsey to the Queen of England, even though I am not her subject. (Not that she'd curtsey to me first, of course.)
