I luv this stuff--Rubio vs. Rubio:

"Secretary of State Marco Rubio got into a testy exchange with a congressman on Wednesday after he repeatedly refused to directly call Russian President Vladimir Putin a war criminal. Things got testy after Keating directly asked the secretary of state, “The person we’re negotiating with, Vladimir Putin, is he a war criminal?” Rubio tried to answer the question without actually answering the question. “Well, I think you can look at instances that have happened there and certainly characterize them as war crimes, but our intent is to end the war,” Rubio said.

Many people weren’t impressed by Rubio’s unwillingness to attack Putin, considering he went after Trump’s then-Secretary of State nominee Rex Tillerson in 2017 for being reluctant to call Putin a war criminal. In fact, the Republicans Against Trump account on X posted a video of that original exchange.“It should not be hard to say that Vladimir Putin’s military has conducted war crimes in Aleppo,” the then-Florida senator chastised Tillerson." https://www.huffpost.com/entry/marco-rubio-wont-label-putin-war-criminal-in-testy-exchange_n_682e09aae4b031fc2ccddfd0

NYT: "Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth led a Christian prayer service in the Pentagon’s auditorium on Wednesday morning, during working hours, in which President Trump was praised as a divinely appointed leader. The event, billed as the “Secretary of Defense Christian Prayer & Worship Service,” was standing room only and ran for about 30 minutes, with Brooks Potteiger, the pastor of Mr. Hegseth’s church in Tennessee, as the main speaker.

Mr. Potteiger’s church, the Pilgrim Hill Reformed Fellowship in Goodlettsville, Tenn., is a member of the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches — the governing documents of which say that church leadership roles are reserved for men, that homosexuality is “unbiblical” and that women should not participate in combat.

Mr. Hegseth said Mr. Potteiger had “long been a mentor of mine, of my wife and I, of our family,” and he described him as “just a Bible-believing, rock steady minister.” The defense secretary said that he had participated in Bible studies with the pastor “long before anything like this seemed possible.”"

"Trump Tries To Prove Existence Of Afrikaner Genocide To South African President

When asked by reporters what it would take for Trump to grasp that there's no genocide of white South African farmers, Ramaphosa said the American president needs to listen more and pay attention to what he's actually seeing.

Trump retorted that he's seen plenty of proof.

"We have thousands of stories taking about it. We have documentaries. We have news stories," he said before having a staffer roll out a TV to play clips he says show thousands of burial sites of Afrikaner farmers. It's unclear where the clip came from.

When Ramaphosa asked Trump for more context, he couldn't give it to him.

"Have they told you where that is, Mr. President? I'd like to know where that is," he asked.

Trump shook his head no." https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-presidency-live_n_681d03c5e4b007ccedaf84a9/liveblog_682e0413e4b05544a32005c3

NYT:

"The difference between Trump’s responses, demeanor and body language towards the white South African golfers in the Oval Office compared to the Black South African government officials is striking. Trump’s former national security official, John Bolton, told me in an interview that the president’s views about South Africa were shaped largely by conversations he would have on his golf course. “I just put it as typical Trump,” Bolton said recently. “Some random person tells him something and he’s obsessed with it.”"

Moar NYT:

"The South African delegation continued to calmly try to explain to Trump the situation on the ground in South Africa, but he remained unmoved. “Dead white people, dead white farmers,” he said.

Trump appeared to calm down as Johann Rupert, a white South African billionaire, pleaded for help while saying that crime was across the board, not just against white farmers."

Still moar NYT: "Another extraordinary meeting just wrapped up in the Oval Office. The meeting between President Trump and President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa was a stark example of a foreign leader essentially trying to give a reality check to Trump, who instead amplified fringe theories. And it was striking how cordial he was to the white South Africans -- two professional golfers and a luxury good magnate -- while clashing with or dismissing Ramaphosa. When the South African leader tried to turn the conversation to trade or shared investments, Trump brought it back to the false claims of mass killings against white South African farmers. Notably, none of cabinet officials attacked Ramaphosa as they did during an Oval Office meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenksy of Ukraine."

"Vietnam Expedites Trump Golf Club As Country Seeks To Avoid Punitive U.S. Tariffs

Vietnam’s prime minister and U.S. President Donald Trump’s son Eric held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday for a $1.5 billion luxury residential development with three 18-hole golf courses outside Hanoi. The U.S. president’s Trump Organization family business and its local partners received approval for the project last week from the Communist authorities in Vietnam, which is separately negotiating over tariffs with Washington.
