So...police depts are saying they're incapable of training their officers to use breathalysers? Or their officers are too stupid to learn? Not a great excuse either way.
Florida (yep FL) has been very tough on DUI for many years. I know several white middle class males in suits who were stopped for minor traffic stuff late at night and although sober had open containers on the back seat floor. Off to jail, car towed, ten grand in attorney's fees. Never have an open container in your car.
I would only say such a thing as a comedy bit. I treat cops like potentially dangerous animals, no need to provoke them. And I'm a middle aged white guy.
In my misspent youth, I had a bit of a lead foot. I lost count of how many speeding tickets I got, but it is in the dozens at least. I got 5 in one year. I was completely forgetful of renewing my tags, so I got pulled over for expired tags numerous times. Half the time I would forget to put updated insurance cards in my wallet or glove box. To top it off, I really loved driving red cars. Bright red. Half the cars I've owned in my long ridiculous life have been ticket-magnet red. Yes, I am that dumb. In other words, I have been pulled over by cops sooooooo many times.
I have never been asked to get out of the vehicle. Never been asked to do any sort of sobriety test. Never had my vehicle searched. I've always been treated with complete deference, even when I very clearly didn't deserve it. Never been hassled in the slightest. Half the time, I was let off with a warning or polite scold, not even ticketed. Most of the tickets I did get were for far lower speeds than I was actually doing.
Why yes, I am white. How did you guess? I am absolutely a walking breathing testament to white privilege.
growing up driving the UK motorways, this doesnt bother me. We regularly drive 90mph. It is the slow cars in the outside fast lane that scare the shit out of me

A good argument for dedicated traffic safety non-cops. Unarmed non-cops. Whose job is to get people to slow the fuck down.

Weird that this story reads as good news because she survived. Hell, she wasn't even shot! This is what we've become.

We can't pull over anymore! Yeah, we're already pulled over!
