There was a person named Vivek

Whose name was a rhyme for a snake

His hair was quite tall

And we wish that he'd fall

Into shit that was shaped like a cake.

Wait, the leaders of the biotech industry thought he was trustworthy before this?

I'd be shocked if that was true.

Truly one of the most insightful ad campaigns in political history, in that it taught us everything that there is to know about the MAGA party.

One of the all time great self-owns.

You could write entire books on the psychology behind why and how Donald Trump has been able to get away with saying things like that. But for me it boils down to: Trump has never pretended to be anything but a crude, foulmouthed boor and bully who is decently civil only when he has to be. Therefore, he's "authentic." OTOH, if someone who once any sort of pretention to good manners or even civilized behavior suddenly starts being as crude as Trump, he comes across as a self-evident actor, hypocrite and phony, even among the people he's trying to impress.

Maelstrom or toilet bowl? Is there a qualitative difference, or is it just a matter of scale? What are the philosophical implications?

Discuss, wipe your ass with your test booklet, and discard.

When we retake the House, and hopefully the Senate, can we shut down construction on the BALLROOM™?

Nancy Naive's avatar

Stop construction. Sell small bags and rock hammers and tell visitors they can take souvenirs.

A federal judge on Friday opened a formal inquiry into whether Trump administration officials and Justice Department lawyers misled the court about President Donald Trump’s plan to remake East Potomac Golf Links, escalating a bitter legal fight in which she has repeatedly questioned the government’s candor.

U.S. District Judge Ana C. Reyes said she’d appoint a special master to investigate whether Interior and Justice department officials made misrepresentations, withheld information or otherwise violated professional rules during the case.

The inquiry capped an extraordinary day in court in which Reyes pressed government lawyers about a central contradiction in the case: Trump publicly announced Oct. 18 on Truth Social that Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and golf architect Tom Fazio had “developed a plan” for a championship course and that East Potomac would close Nov. 15. The next day, however, government lawyers and Interior officials told the court there was no plan to close the course.

The administration did not acknowledge until this week that Trump had directed Interior and the National Park Service to close the facility by Nov. 15. Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward Jr. said Thursday that he regarded Trump’s Truth Social post as a directive to Interior akin to an executive order, even as he continued to maintain that no final course plan existed. I hope they make Tom Fazio make statements under oath as part of this. He's Trump's favored course designer on the project and and a well-known asshole in the golf world. He despises natural courses and spends vast sums of money and diesel to do things like move a hill six feet to the right. Would be nice to see him get tainted by all the dirt he's been handling. I have no doubt that removing all the trees was done under his suggestion to Trump, and I'm sure he'd have no qualms knowing it would be going against a court order.

Nimesh isn't wrong. I knew a Vivek at work. He was by far the biggest most inept asshole I ever worked with (not for... but they were all Vivek, even the wypipo.)

He got fired trying to cover up his own fuck up and then told everyone he was coming back as director of... quality (he broke all of the cardinal rules of quality... responsibility, truthful and data integrity.) I laughed and laughed and laughed.

He wasn't as good as Vivek with money as he blew a good chunk of it on Canadian Cannabis stocks in 2018 when they were at their peak value.

I've blown a fair amount of money on cannabis; I doubt it was Canadian though.

OT:

This is a little spooky.

For reasons, I was well into my 30s before I got credit cards. That was inconvenient, but actually worked out really well for me.

The first cards I got were crap. Including one from Bank of America, the first one I ever got. I almost never use it now, but it helped me build credit.

I just received an email from them, saying this:

I trust Dork Zuckerborg with my money more than AI... and I don't trust Dork Zuck at all.

Sk8erChoi's avatar

There have already been some cases of AI taking or transferring money on its own, without prompts; so both banks and tech companies are coming out to deny any liability. I think part of the reason why the term "AI agent" is replacing "bot" is because the emphasis is on its relationship to the user, rather than the provider or creator. It is your 'agent' so only you are liable.

swmnguy's avatar

From "I Hate Banks," by Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper:

Yeah, throw the money changers outta the temple

I hate banks, it's just that simple

A Royal Crown pomade tin

Is the best thing to keep your money in, yeah

Mason jar is okay too

If you see a bank, well, you know what to do

swmnguy's avatar

I have a Royal Crown pomade tin. Went and bought it when I heard this song the first time. Scooped out the pomade, wiped out the tin, and I still keep some money in it.

Mason jars too. I have some from the 19-teens, that belonged to my great grandmother.

MRK's avatar

They know some people have bought enough of the AI hype to do really stupid shit, and just want to cover their ass when they tell those people to take their losses and shut up.
