I am writing to share the heartbreaking news that my housemate Katy, also known as Woman in the Persistence / Woman Coming Home, passed away in her bedroom last night. It appears she died from a medical event.
After notifying the authorities and her mother, Susan, I have been struggling to process this immense loss. Katy was a beautiful soul, full of love and righteousness, and I miss her greatly.
I am currently working with Susan to ensure her affairs are settled and bills are paid. I will be staying in the house for the foreseeable future. Please keep Susan in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.
Susan and I are meeting this Friday to discuss arrangements for a memorial. In lieu of flowers, please consider participating in a protest this Saturday; Katy would have liked that.
If not for the Wonkette family I would never have had the chance to meet and share a few years with this powerful and joyful woman who became my best friend.
This is so very late but I just wanted to say something about Katy. It was such a pleasure to be her friend. She was one of my favorite people in all the world. Like Milburn if not for the Wonk family I wouldn't have never gotten to meet her (and get many of her amazing hugs in person!)

My "freedom fighter" DIL in Brainerd, MN, told me yesterday that one of her friends, who is Hmong, received a visit at her house from ICE. They banged at the door but she wouldn't open it and they eventually left. She's terrified—it's just her and her six-year-old daughter and they don't dare leave the house anymore. Her parents (yes, two different families) immigrated to the area as children 50 years ago, and this woman was born at the hospital in Brainerd in the mid-'80s. In other words, American.
Brainerd has a large number of Hmong, who were sponsored by churches in the '70s—we had a Hmong family who lived four houses away from us when I was a kid, they were moved into a large but rather dilapidated house that the family immediately started working on to make it nicer. Hmong people have been a welcome part of the Brainerd community for decades, owning and operting shops and restaurants. And now they're being targeted.
My son, DIL, and I were talking about why some people are being targeted in Brainerd and others (of the same ethnicities) were not and the only conclusion we could come to is "bigoted neighbors willing to turn in their other neighbors." There are plenty of fuckers in the Brainerd area who are welcoming ICE with open arms—not because these immigrants and natural-born Americans are causing trouble, they're just not REAL 'Murican like the bigots are. The REAL 'Muricans in Brainerd are more than happy to suck trump's dick, lick ICE's boots, and probably wank off to videos of Noem and they don't care if these peaceful neighbors of theirs have never caused any trouble and only enriched the community. They're "different" (no, they're not) and have to go in order to have a pure, white Brainerd.
