He may be worried about being seen as meddling financially in other states' affairs, but billionaires have their ways to fund whatever they want under the table.

It is SO WEIRD to see a billionaire who seems to be using his money and political status for good for the sake of being an actual decent person rather than as a mask.

I like Illinois non-Nazis!

"where Gov. JB Pritzker has not only offered about 30 of them a place to stay, .....but may or may not be helping to finance the walkout......, seeing as how he’s a billionaire and all. (The Hill says he is; Pritzker tells Politico that he hasn’t “written a check or supported them financially, though I am not reticent to do so.”

This issue was covered in an interview between Medhi Hasan and James Talarico (two absolutely LOVELY LOVELY human beings)

Talarico has stated that while the dems that need it will accept individual donations they will NOT 'accept' donations from Pritzker for obvious ethical reasons. And I have no DOUBT that Pritzker (also a lovely person especially for a billionaire) understands this. How things look really matter now and everyone on our team understands it

nice times for nice people...oar this please

Love me some J.B. Pritzker! That very rare thing: a GOOD billionaire.

Democrats, follow his lead!

I can guess those Texans didn't choose Illinoi for the pizza.

Hey, even Chicago deep-dish is better than whatever they have in Texas.

While the Dems need to look for young leaders so see us through the coming decades I find myself tempted by an old guy for 2028. Tim Walz was really good, I thought, both in criticizing the opposition ("weird") and appealing to ordinary people. Pritzker is starting to appeal to me, too. Among the younger set Pete Buttigreg stands out but I worry that for too many his being gay is a deal-breaker.

Walz is 61, Priztger 60, only a couple years older than the average age Congress, and younger than literally half the senate. That's younger enough for me for the time being.

Do all those Texas Republicans simply reject the idea that what they're trying to do is anti-democratic? That they are attempting to subvert the Constitution? That gerrymandering of the degree they want to impose actually disenfranchises more voters than it solves?

Sorry for the stupid questions - of course, they do. They can't afford to question their own motives

They. Don't. Give. A. Fuck.

as a trans Texile (Texan exile) who fled numerous variously shaky berths before landing in Illinois, I welcome my countrymen and urge them to fight like rabid dogs.

Maybe — just maybe — if the Republicans had policy ideas that actually helped people and were popular, they wouldn’t have to cheat and lie and steal to retain power.

And, see, that last word is what it’s about. Governance is representation and leadership, not power. They don’t believe this, of course, because they are hateful.

It's kind of hard to get by with a sole policy of give the wealthy everything they want.

Illinois in general, but Chicago in particular have long since been a refuge for outcasts from red states. That's one of the things I truly love about the state.

Hello Marion's avatar

Also for outcasts from Downstate (my ancestral home is smack dab in Mary Miller's district).

Bagels of Doom's avatar

Very true. I have family in Carbondale. Downstate Illinois is for all intents and purposes a red state.

I was so excited when the No Kings map came out, showing all the wee burgs that were having protests despite being in deep red areas. Yet no matter how many times I refreshed it there was nary a one in Richland County.

I always joke that southern Illinois is actually northern Kentucky.

Kateorite's avatar

That's nice to hear.

Bagels of Doom's avatar

It's a double-edged sword, really, as you get to see the results of red state-fuckery first hand.

Kateorite's avatar

Hmm, yeah. Triage & adjustment for the incoming must be complex.

Has Pritzker helped?

Bagels of Doom's avatar

I haven't been in Chicago in a good while and honestly don't know how the situation on the ground looks like right now.

Gee, I wonder what a man of Ukrainian and Jewish descent knows about persecution and injustice.

'tis a riddle wrapped in an enigma.

"Texas’ attack on democracy is going to affect the composition of the House, and that affects everyone in the country.”

Damn right.

And Pritzker is one of the billionaire class. His words resonate louder and farther.
