Canadian curling finals are still booked years in advance

Wonder just how badly TFG will fuck up the nation's 250th birthday celebration by making it all about him and his fake accomplishments. Nobody from outside the US will come to the party, that's for sure.

So the FIFA peace prize cost our country how much money?

Ta, Evan. I don't watch sports, although while visiting Younger Sister I saw the best part of a (real) football game on TV. ETTD. AOT, K.

I live in SoCal. Not going to any World Cup games, and I enjoy soccer. Not going to any 2028 Olympic events, and I love the Olympics. Not celebrating the 4th of July or the 250th birthday this year, and I am the widow of a Navy veteran. Donald Trump ruined all of it for me, and I will dance in the fucking street when he goes to hell.

Infantino will fix things by giving Pedo47 another made up peace prize.

It's astonishing really. Loser McLoserface is IN the hospitality business. He of all people should understand consequences. Of course, any losses he might suffer is being made up in "official" functions being staged at his Bed Bug Motels. But how many loser ass-kissers can there be? I can't imagine his Scottish properties are doing well. And how does he translate billions in lost tourism dollars to us being "the hottest country in the world?" Nevermind. He's an idiot living in a fantasy world.

This is the same brilliant business acumen that bankrupted multiple casinos.

Wondering Woman's avatar

That really says it all, doesn't it? A casino is basically a license to print money and he couldn't even succeed at that.

Rosemary Orlandi's avatar

I imagine he sucked those casinos dry before they crashed and burned.

No thanks: the hidden lawyer's fees for getting out of the hands of random ICE thugs at the airport are a definite burden.

Ten years old and anecdotal but you can stay in a beautiful pensione in Rome, homemade breakfast included, walking distance to everything, for half the price of our cheaper chain hotels. We're stupid.

So it's not true that PAB is hero and genius of the hospitality industry? That's shocking!

And with the news today that Europe has about six weeks of avgas left in the proverbial tank, it's difficult to imagine a more ridiculous ask that people come to the States for WC than this calculus of fascism, war, and an energy crisis of our own making. The party of "pro-business" has rather obliterated that moniker, and chambers of commerce across the country had better rethink whom they elevate in the next election, if they want to fill their hotels, restaurants, etc.

I'm going on a group trip in July to Nova Scotia. I live close enough to the Canadian border that it's a tossup whether Vancouver BC airport or Seattle airport is closer. I like to take a bus or train up to Vancouver, maybe spend the night in a cheap room, then get on the flight the next morning.

So back in February I started looking for rooms. On the night of a World Cup game in Vancouver. Rooms were extremely expensive, when I could find one. Often up into the thousands.

Today those rooms are going for half that.

And that's in Canada! Not this lawless jungle.

Having been "airBnB-ed" out of my previous apartment, "thanks" to World Cup speculation, I hope the landlords take a bath on this fiasco.

I have cousins who live abroad we are planning to meet up but they have NO INTENTION of coming over here. They are from countries that were once our allies...

I'm sure that Trump Hotels and Resorts will be more than happy to put up all the foreigners coming for the World Cup. Especially the blacks, Hispanics, and Middle Easterners.
