The article doesn't say, but I wouldn't be surprised if Mexico and Canada are getting a boost in tourism from the World Cup, because they don't Dipshit as a "leader."

How stupid do you have to be to shit all over immigrants, citizens, and visitors to your country, then start a war of YOUR choice, which destabilizes the world economy, all just when you are going to host an event like the World Cup? Answer: Donald Fucking Trump stupid! Even Hitler was smart enough to start his war of choice AFTER Germany hosted the 1936 Olympics.

We have at least one game here in Seattle. Not sure about the hotel pricing but the pricing for vacation rentals in Leavenworth WA are fucking ridiculously overpriced

Alpaca22's avatar

Anyone know what the hotel bookings are like Mexico and Canada for the WC gamea?

I'm wondering the same thing.

Hey, cool -- Trump is making the US into what he's made himself, his entire life:

unwanted, laughed at, dismissed, and not trusted.

Thanks, Republicans. You have fulfilled the mission the Russians gave you.

it's not just the hotels. in Boston the local W.C. organizing committee hasn't met it's fundraising goals, "Fan Fest" events are being scaled back or canceled, and there are serious questions about people actually being able to get to games

Do the players and fans who are seized by ICE and deported count against Stephen Miller's daily quota?

Trump can issue an executive order requiring every attendee to manage a cardboard cutout fan in the seat next to them like its a pandemic again.

"Atlanta, Dallas, Miami," : name three places I would not want to be in the summer.*

* Dallas has a fabulous aquarium if you happen to be stuck there in the summer time.

Hotels just can't compete with concentration camps. Foreigners stay for free!

I live in Tiverton, RI, which is adjacent to Fall River, MA. The Brazilian population here has exploded over the past decade. Restaurants, supermarkets, etc. Everywhere, all you see is the Brazilian flag and SOCCER. Everywhere; SOCCER SOCCER SOCCER, SOCCER. Never witnessed this much die-hard fandom before. Heck, RI even has it's own soccer team now! The Rhode Island FC, and they ain't doing too bad! Boston is hosting some of the games at the Patriot's Gillette Stadium (renamed Boston Stadium for the events), and the Mass Commuter Rail created trains specifically for getting patrons from Providence and Boston to the games. We're also hosting visiting teams at Brown University (access to a practice field in Providence) and I believe also around the RI FC field in Pawtucket.

The MBTA announced that the day the train tickets went on sale, they sold out almost immediately. In Providence, they are gearing up for the influx of fans; apparently in our region, the reservations are hot.

But HERE, we are really becoming a soccer culture. Can't say the same for the other locations.

But we are ONE venue, in a DARK BLUE state in a DARK BLUE corner of the country, and a venue that Trump has threatened to shut down (no less than in January) and move to the likes of Atlanta, to which the Soccer league said "Um... no can do, you idiot." Perhaps they threaten to take back his FIFA Peas Price if he kept up the bullshit?

We looked into attending a random game being held in Atlanta. Tickets started at $1500 for the nose bleeds in the Benz. We said "nevermind."

Same in Dallas. That was months ago, though. Now probably a buck fifty, or will be soon. Except might be teams aren't coming either, too risky.

That's criminal. Fuck that noise.

Some things are still going up in cost due to the World Cup, though. Trains from NYC to the Meadowlands will cost $100 a pop, up from the normal $12.50.

TBF, this may not be the straight-up price gouging it looks like. The transit people are going to have to dedicate extra trains to handle the WC crowds, at extra expense. Their rationale is that taxpayers in NJ should not have to subsidize that expense; let soccer fans pay for their own ride.

Bitter Scribe's avatar

Oh, there'll be crowds all right. Lotsa soccer fans in the NYC metro area.

In other news, Donvict’s keystone kapos just realized that they need to sell the Iran war to the rubes. The maga-rubes. You know, the “real” Americans. Seven weeks after launching the illegal, immoral and disastrous war.

So far, their best ideas are something about Rosie O’Donnell and claiming that kitty litter boxes are being forced into preschools.

And going after drag performers again. That's always a big thing with the Xtian Right!
