One of my favorite moments of fleeting fame is when my letter requesting The Mary Ellen Carter was read as the last, the anchor, the ultimate (you get the idea- it was important) on a special 2-hour show on CBC radio on the music of the Rogers brothers, with Garnet as the special guest. I could always sing Barrett&#039;s Privateers to my 2 yr old son, but had trouble with Mary Ellen Carter (i really can&#039;t sing), and the message of this song is one that I wanted him to get. And as I was typing this, that now 22 year old (today!! He&#039;s a Canada Day baby!) came into the house on a brief visit. I starting crying literally as I talked to him about this, with the song playing again, because he&#039;s had a truly shitty 5 years and things seem to be finally turning around for him. And gave him a hug and a kiss. Sometimes things just seem to come together, don&#039;t they?
