And the red states tend to have higher infant mortality rates. Also lower life expectancy. Plus higher death by gun rates. Higher divorce rates. Higher teen pregnancy rates. It is not unusual for companies to complain about the cost of mandated safety standards, testing etc by talking about how many children they could feed with that money. Emphasis on "Could".
