My biggest concern right now is the voting thing mentioned at the bottom. I've told this story before and while true, it's a personal anecdote (and the article was already 1k words) so I skipped putting it there. But for those curious, when I first came out -- or, rather, when I first was getting involved in trans community, I was **immediately** told that I should register to vote absentee (this was long enough ago that Oregon didn't have universal vote-by-mail yet).

Of course me being me, I didn't get around to it. One fine spring day in 1994 I went to vote and the poll worker turned me away and made a note next to my name that there was some attempted fraud going on.

I went back several hours later, hoping that worker would be gone, but that note caused the new worker to call a supervisor over. I had a brief conversation with the supervisor about YES TRANSSEXUAL PEOPLE EXIST, WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO ABOUT IT? Because it was Portland, and a liberal part of town, they were like, nothing it's fine, but can you show me your ID just so that I can say I did my due diligence? I gave them my ID, they added a response to the note, handed me my ballot and it all worked out.

But -- and I stress BUT! -- if I hadn't been pigheaded enough to go back, or if the supervisor had been pigheaded enough to call the cops, or if I went back but wasn't able to stand up for myself, they would have ended up denying my right to vote just for being trans.

And this was in Portland, Oregon. How do you think it goes in Gaston? Or Coos Bay? Or some town of 30k in Alabama or Kansas?

No, trans people are being denied the right to vote for being trans, and all the kinky ID shit going down just increases the number of people who will be turned away.

And, of course, it's not accidental.
