Ta, Robyn. I worked today. I must work every weekday from now until the 29th. If I did not, I would forfeit my vacation payout, which is already over $3000 before taxes. I joked today that should I be hit by a truck, I'd make the ambulance take me to the job and clock in from a stretcher. This close to retirement I'm taking no chances. I love May Day/Beltane, and hope everyone had a pleasant one.
When you say "right to work" do you mean "employment at will" or the actual mandatory union dues if the majority votes for a union thing? Because they are wildly different.
I am in favor of repealing both, I just want to know what you mean.
Alas, we can't risk employment, and we needed butter and wine from the local grocery store, but we're not buying shit from Amazon or anyone else, nor streaming anything, etc. It's no coincidence that American jobs are tied to healthcare- it's a modern indentured servitude that will only change when we all drop purity tests and elect every Dem on our respective ballots, this time and every time, primarying whomever doesn't work with us for M4A, unions, abortion access, a new and permanent voting rights act, environmental protections, an end to anti-LGBTQ legislation and on and on. We have so much more power than we realize, if we would just get it together. Voting in lockstep with a party is not appealing to me either, and I welcome independent candidates who are in the progressive camp, but we have to see this as a group effort toward a shared goal. We won't get every line item we want, but we won't be living under fascism, either.
I have to work today, but I'll be doing coursework for my grant writer certification and working on grant applications for a small nonprofit. Also I work with/for my cousin and I'm technically self-employed, so no corporations benefit. Also too I do need to make a couple of small purchases, because I did not plan well.
In 1999, my kids school closed so we could take them to the WTO protest. It was huge, lasted three or four days, ending in a massive pig riot. Every LEO agency in the region came to practice. No badges, no talking to protesters, just goons. Reminds me of....
I'm currently helping a family in Cincinnati find a memory care facility for their parents, so I've done some research today for them (and even made my first cold call in this capacity!), but since I'm self-employed, at least it's for my benefit. I'm also working with my client with Alzheimer's this evening, because striking as a health care professional is a bit trickier. But decided that I'm only heating up leftovers for their dinner, though! 😄However, I'm not shopping throughout the weekend unless we get lunch on Sunday, and that's only at a locally owned place. I've been buying less and thrifting as much as possible over the past year, too. Cutting out the capitalist system is the key, and maintaining it as long as it takes is what we can do to make some real progress. I think gas and food prices getting out of control will be the main cause that makes our citizens get the courage to stand up for ourselves, though. Solidarity, brothers and sisters! I believe in us.
I can't attend a protest today, but my teenage daughter is! She's marching from her school to the Capitol with fellow students and teachers (school was cancelled today). I am so proud of her!
The thing I love about Mamdani is that he is getting shit done and bragging about it right and left. As he should. Too many democrats run from their accomplishments or their colleague's accomplishments. Let your "getting shit done" flag fly!! P.S. Stop listening to fucking consultants they are useless.
We're in Rome today, so we've been doing as the Romans do and not working, instead choosing to drink wine and eat gelato - a much better way to spend a Friday 😊
No idea. I just screamed at Banner on the phone and they hung up on me.
They told me my doctor put notes in there that is preventing the refill.
For albuterol. Which I haven't had refille din over a month. And which I have had prescribed for 30 FUCKING YEARS!
THEY would't tell me what was in the medical notes and I screamed : THEY ARE NOTES RELATING TO ME AND MY FUCKING HEALTH! I HAVE A FUCKING RIGHT TO KNOW!

All I bought today was a Wonkette subscription, and one for The Moral High Ground. Hopefully that doesn't make me a bad person.

COINCIDENTALLY THIS IS THE DAY MY WONKET SUBSCRIPTION AUTO-RENEWS.
Together we win.

I'm a Union healthcare worker (not professional, support staff). We had leftovers for dinner, too. Just finished them. Divine.

I am not spending ANY money today, though.

Just had breakfast. Of course I’m not working today. Or buying anything. Happy May Day to everyone!
Great post, Robyn! Other things to do? Attend those local town meetings and write letters to your representatives.
People's Labor Day!
