Hello Marion's avatar

Even if everyone in the country took part in a general strike today, the people who most need to be afflicted by such an action can just yawn and wait us out. They can afford to be mildly inconvenienced for way longer than we can afford to go without pay. I just don't see this kind of thing working even a little bit, as much as I would like it to. It would have to go on for weeks or months and nobody living paycheck to paycheck can do that. If I'm missing something obvious here, I'm happy to be smacked down.

EyeQueue's avatar

Organization to feed people is possible. Minneapolis demonstrated that. So have other places.

They want us to think it's not so we will just cave. We can't do that.

It is possible to organize before the big planned general strike in 2028.

Senior officials warn Trump that Iran 'keenly aware' they can sink GOP in midterms

President Donald Trump has been briefed by “several senior administration officials” that Iran is “keenly aware” of the leverage it holds over the president as the conflict drags on, Zeteo reported on Friday.

Trump has claimed that his administration holds “all the cards” as peace talks between Washington and Tehran continue to stall, that Iran’s government was in a “state of collapse,” and that he was in no rush to reach a peace deal. However, according to two administration officials and two other inside sources, classified intelligence assessments that Trump has been briefed on suggest the opposite.

“In recent weeks, US officials have privately discussed classified intelligence assessments suggesting that the government in Tehran isn’t close to breaking, even after two months of war and a sustained economic assault, two administration officials and two other sources briefed on the matter tell us,” according to Zeteo.

“Administration officials, citing US intel, have also warned that senior Iranian officials are keenly aware that if the war drags on much longer, it could further damage Trump and the Republican Party’s chances at the polls in November.”

One senior administration official, speaking with Zeteo on the condition of anonymity, compared the leverage Iran had over Trump with the leverage Iran had over former President Jimmy Carter, whose presidency was tanked in large part due to the 1979 Iran hostage crisis.

It is NOT Congress who let Obamacare subsidies drop, it is republicans in Congress. Your inaccurate headline takes away responsibility and blame from the people who deserve it and shares it with the people who don’t.

OT. I understand time outs in baseball. Runner needs to get set after stealing. Batter needs

to scratch his crotch. Ump gives them the benefit of the doubt. In foohbaw, the coach gets

pissed that the overpaid rookie qb can't remember more than 2 plays in a game he's been

playing since he was 10. Dunno about basketball. They seem unlimited for little or no reasons.

Have no idea about soccer. In hockey I do understand they gotta mop up the blood and teeth.

But now I really don't understand time outs in war.

I remember Charlie celebrated Tet. So a break. Until he didn't. And then shit hit the fan and

worse of all, Ann Margaret didn't even come! Yep, Wah is Hell. Oh, BTW.......

'Butt out': Dem insiders livid as they blame Chuck Schumer's meddling for primary shock

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is facing a revolt within his own caucus over his failed recruitment of Maine Gov. Janet Mills to challenge Republican Sen. Susan Collins, with frustrated Democratic senators now demanding he stay out of contested primaries in battleground states.

Mills abandoned her campaign before the primary after failing to generate enthusiasm or donations, effectively handing the Democratic nomination to polling favorite Graham Platner. The collapse has become a significant blow to Schumer's reputation among his peers, according to Democratic Party insiders.

The Hill reported that several anonymous Democratic senators are now calling Schumer's support for Mills a "miscalculation" and a "mistake," and are urging him to "butt out' in other contested Democratic primaries — particularly in Michigan and Minnesota.

A second Democratic senator criticized Schumer for continuing to rely on outdated tactics. "I don't doubt his intention. I think he really believed that [Mills] was going to be the very best candidate, but it didn't work out that way. I think he's making decisions based on sort of an old-school book of how you win elections and what it takes to win elections. Things are changing a lot," the source said.

The senator also warned Schumer against attempting to "pick winners and losers" in key primaries, accusing him of steering donor money toward more moderate candidates like Rep. Haley Stevens in Michigan and Rep. Angie Craig in Minnesota.

EyeQueue's avatar

Yep. This right here. It would be a hard no from me.

TerseNurse's avatar

agree, but not even being a resident of the Great State of Maine, at this point I feel like all I can do is hope for the best. and drink heavily.

"M"'s avatar

I don't agree

I spoke up about Fetterman not just because I have people from there even though I'm not there currently

But the point is that the number and composition of D seats changes the NATIONAL balance of power

So if you don't want Democratic policies -- which have brought the country everything from healthcare (when we had it) to Social Security (if we can keep it) -- to fall to Confederate Republican greed because the Democrat you "didn't want to choose for another state" consistently votes with Republicans ...

I hope at least you've been handed another reason to consider speaking up

https://www.wonkette.com/p/welcome-to-may-day-did-you-remember/comment/252159158

TerseNurse's avatar

ok, you know me, I'm a dirty commie.

BUT.

This cat is running in Maine, where I don't have a vote. His (D) primary opponent (older, fairly milquetoast) just dropped out. Platner says the right shit, but he has a Nazi tattoo, and that certain accompanying smell.

I'm sorry, but where does this leave me, except to hope we're all wrong and he's the real deal and not a Fetterman in oysterman's clothing? (not really snark, honest question)

NewLarry's avatar

Valid point. Not sure it outweighs just butting out, but a valid point to be considered.
