I don’t understand their use of Shelby Foote, as he’s an outstanding historian. I would expect their library to be Bill O’Reilly, the collected works of the Bloated Yam, Henry Ford’s “Dearborn Independent,” “Mein Kampf,” “Myth of the 20th Century,” and “Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion.”
Otherwise, this sounds like the school they want to set up.
I trust the school will teach different sides of important questions. For example, is "climate change" a hoax perpetrated by "scientists" to get lots of grant money from taxpayers for "research", or is it a more sinister conspiracy to bring about One World Government? Students should be led carefully through the arguments for both points of view, applying Critical Thinking Skills to arrive at the insight that "BOTH! IT'S BOTH!!!"
During a speech at a conference hosted by far-right anti-LGBTQ group Moms for Liberty, Prager acknowledged that he was on a mission to indoctrinate public school students.
And it's liberals who are doing the indoctrinating? This guy comes right out and says it.
Joy Reid gave one of these assholes a bully pulpit last week and let her shit all over my living room. There is no conversation to be had with these people. We are truly fucked.
I would have upvoted, Mr. Legum, except that you smeared Norman Rockwell, who would definitely NOT agree with the KKKlanned Karenhood Kuriculum. Better you should use Thomas Kinkade or, even better, Jon McNaughton.
I didn't detect any smear against Rockwell. The satire is against the MAGA claim that Rockwell is one of them, similar to Reagan's use of Born in the USA without understanding what the song was about.
Perhaps "smear" is too strong. I don't believe that, if they knew some of what Rockwell painted when he was too famous to be suppressed by periodical editors or gallery folk, that MAGA/MoL types would celebrate Rockwell or feature him in their curricula at all. Therefore, the satire fell flat for me in that paragraph.
I happen to believe that a Texas hot honey old fashioned and a 1-1/4" preroll of some old school strain (varies) is probably the greatest combination in the world. Hard to prove... but hard to prove me wrong.
it is just an indoctrination camp for them, isn't it, they've always accused the left of indoctrinating children, but these people are not serious about teaching anything other than their twisted world view cos real life = scary
Students who test positive for mRNA vaccine remnants will be required to undertake the anti-death jab treatment devised by the school's consulting physician Dr Joseph Ladapo. Possession of a Fauci mask will result in instant expulsion.
I was TT and got laid off by my incompetently run state system in 2022. I did the visiting thing at a nearby private college last year, and called it quits. I now work for the state and do some consulting and actually have work-life balance and manageable stress levels.
There as re some things I miss about being a professor, but mostly just the summers off.
I need to get the hell out of there. I'm one of 3 or 4 lecturers left n my original department, and I'm splitting my time between 2 departments. Been working 7 days a week since 2020. Any advice?
That sounds like a challenging situation. I found that being in more than one department made the management/review issues even worse because of the multiple claims on your time and energy, and without singular oversight from one chair.
My situation may be difficult to replicate, because we have a unionized faculty and so the layoffs came with a generous severance that allowed me a lot of time to find reasonable work. I'm sure the reason for the severance period is to allow us to take advantage of an academic hiring cycle, but after some introspection I realized that it was a good time to leave that sector altogether.
I live in rural Maine, so there aren't tons of decent-paying jobs, and I was mostly looking at remote or hybrid positions, and eventually found a really good one with the state. In some ways, it replicates a lot of the good things about professor work: new things to learn and stay on top of as the science changes; research and publishing; working with engaged people who could be doing something else with their time and energy.
There are of course consultants who would be happy to work with you on job transition. I didn't go that route, but I did spend some time looking into different norms for how to apply for different types of jobs (federal/USA Jobs, environmental nonprofits, etc). I was too nervous and didn't have the confidence to jump into self employment or consulting full-time.
I'm between the depts of psychology, sociology and now "human development," an all online and popular major at the campus. We're unionized (strike starts tomorrow!), but I'm a lecturer, so. I hate the remote thing. I resent that it cost me a whole room in my small house. Nowhere to put the sewing machine. I'm looking to apply for things between now and the Fall semester. I think my best shot is in quantitative data analysis, which is also something I actually enjoy. I'm so glad it worked out for you.
I envy your union representation. Our administration discouraged unionization, saying they'd be "disappointed" if we organized. Toothless faculty senate. If you're good with stats the IT field is open.
I quit in 2020. Due to an asshole administrator that was holding adjunct faculty to a higher standard than tenured when it came to how we were running our online classes (during lockdown). It was fucking ridiculous, and I stopped after the classes I was teaching at the end of the following fall.
Online classes stink to high heavens. It's an imitation of education. Some students behave like disgruntled Yelp reviewers. They've become accustomed to just checking boxes and expect perfect scores. The grade inflation is unconscionable. It's a joke. Meantime, tuition goes up and up and up. It's essentially a diploma mill now.
I enjoyed teaching, the classroom was my domain, and I witnessed many successful students. Office politics poisoned the air, and the institution turned into a corporate mentality. False enthusiasm and bad attitude.
The 14 words?
So, the Shahada?
I, confused...

I just took a look at the Wikipedia page on Shelby Foote. A characterization that comes to mind is "tendentious".
I can see that.
I LOLed to the point of tears to this post. Thank you SO much for my resulting joy.
At the same time, when sober ,I do understand the grave truths demonstrated in this parody.

Re-education camps and indoctrination camps are outstanding if they are developed by and run by the right wing. Fuck this fucking country
The Shoplifting and Throuple Sexual Etiquette courses should prove especially informative.
But remember, it's the atheists who have no morals...
you'd be lucky to add 2+2 after such a brainwashing
It's 5! "Teach The Controversy"
That was the plotline in the USSR under Stalin: neon signs read "2+2=5" to support various Three-Year Plans.
George Orwell put it in "1984."

Quality of life: once you've experienced it, you'll do what you have to do to keep it.

Awesome. I will have to do the same.
May I ask what you teach? Mine was/is CS

That is some hardcore bullshit you went through right there. My condolences.
It really was. Thank you so much for your kindness.
I began to dislike it in '18, and by the time I retired in '21 I swore I was done with education.
I love education! But I do not wish to work in this higher ed system anymore. Anyway, we're going on strike tomorrow, so yay for us.
I enjoyed teaching, the classroom was my domain, and I witnessed many successful students. Office politics poisoned the air, and the institution turned into a corporate mentality. False enthusiasm and bad attitude.
Oh, yes, bigly. And 2020 accelerated the whole shit sandwich.
The movie is over if you'd like to join us there for OT.
If you took the Packers and the 9.5 points you’re feeling pretty comfortable right now
