Working questions here.

Parakeetist's avatar

I'm asking this again, but have you found any non-alcoholic drinks that are good?

Thanks. :)

Microwave the lime for 20-30 seconds (I know, that's longer than standard. But I'm a rebel.) Voila! A juicy lime.

Cola with bitters is an old favorite of mine. Thank you, Hooper!

First, your post reminded me that it is Friday (it’s been a crazy January), I am definitely going to try the bitters & soda later tonight (not actually doing dry Jan, but sort of semi-dry). I do take issue with being able to tell cane syrup coke from corn syrup (but I’m talking from drinking it straight, maybe not as different with alcohol). Anyway, your post, as always was very educational.

Bob's avatar

I made your Bumboo syrup a while ago and have enjoyed it but had trouble finding Hamilton 86 rum until this week. So, I've tried it with Planterray, Appleton Estate, and Mount Gay Eclipse. Boy, what a difference that Hamilton 86 makes.

A little late for me to start “dry January”.

Plenty of time to plan for next year.

February isn't looking too good either this year.

Okay, so the boss came into my office the other day to discuss improving my work habits. Was it ingracious of me not to offer to “sweetened” his coffee as I did mine?

I like orange bitters in my coke, but a dozen dashes seems excessive.

When you were in NOLA, did you make it to Pepp’s Pub? The photo of the Malort bar mat made me think of them.

MAGA Civil War Erupts as Loomer Targets Vance

A fresh MAGA civil war has erupted ahead of the midterm elections, with one of President Donald Trump’s most vocal allies lashing out at Vice President JD Vance over abortion and accusing him of being “friends with degenerates.”

The scorched-earth tirade by MAGA acolyte Laura Loomer took place shortly after Vance appeared at the annual March for Life rally in Washington, D.C., where he touted Trump as the most pro-life president in history and encouraged anti-abortion activists to “take heart in how far we’ve come.”

But Loomer questioned his presence at the event, asking her 1.8 million followers on X: “Why is the GOP pushing more abortion messaging in a midterm election year? Didn’t they learn their lesson in 2018?”

“Trump doesn’t like when the GOP focuses on abortion,” she added. “How many times does he have to say this? Trump gets it. The GOP will blow the midterms.”

Vance, however, clapped back, noting that the president himself had sent a video message that was played at the event on Friday, and had encouraged him to be there.

Right-wing conspiracy theorist and activist Laura Loomer unleashed a bombshell claim Friday night that members of the Republican Party are intentionally tanking the midterms to pave the way for President Donald Trump's impeachment.

Loomer laid out her theory with stark language on X.

"You can tell a lot of people in the GOP are deliberately trying to botch the midterms so that President Trump is impeached," she wrote, adding the ominous question: "What happens if President Trump gets impeached? We all know."

***

No.

YOU don't know what's going to happen.

I do.

Absolutely fucking nothing. Who cares if he's Impeached?

Now, if the Senate decided on a secret ballot? THEN you got things to be worried about.

Otherwise, Impeachment = wanking motion.

Bitter Scribe's avatar

Loomer is about a half step behind Candace Owens in the Race for Nuttiest Rightie Influencer.

Owens has more imagination. (Emanuel Macron's wife is actually a man, Charlie Kirk was trained by space aliens of which she herself may be one, whatever.) But Loomer AFAIK actually still has influence at the WH, and that is still scary AF.

January 16th:

"Thousands of workers across the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will lose their jobs this year, according to multiple people who attended personnel meetings that supervisors held in the last week.

FEMA supervisors warned that workers with multiyear contracts that are set to expire this year will not see those contracts extended, even if they are actively working on rebuilding efforts in places that recently suffered disasters. Some divisions within the agency stand to lose half their workers if current policies stay in place for the rest of the year, those with direct knowledge said. They all requested that NPR not use their names because they were told they would be fired for speaking to the press."

"WASHINGTON (TNND) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) informed staff on Thursday that disaster worker terminations would be halted due to the massive impending winter storm set to impact at least 160 million Americans."

Oh, gosh, don't want half the fucking country furious at you in a midterm year? Hoping no more disasters hit until 2027? Cause you know those layoffs will go into effect asap after the storm is gone and things are relatively back to normal.

New fundraising platform tied to Trump’s son stands to profit off Trump library

The Florida-based conservative fundraising platform PSQ Impact landed a giant client this week — Donald Trump’s presidential library foundation — despite having just launched last month. Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., could stand to benefit from the deal. He’s one of the largest shareholders on the Board of Directors for the new platform’s parent company, Public Square, according to the most recently available public filings.

And the writers of Punisher comic books have had the character tell them off several times, but apparently suing people who make white nationalist Punisher decals isn't something Marvel bothers with.

Termite is losing his tiny dog mind over the snow. He sat in the window with his ears alert and high watching the snow blowing around. I'd say we got about half and inch in the first two hours, most of it is that light weight powdery stuff that blows all around. The heavy stuff should come in tonight. I'll be eager to look out my window in the morning. The windows will be closed tonight, but the heat will be off. Ceiling fan on.
