Busy questions here.

I'm travelling through Ohio, and might get the chance to check out your craft tomorrow or Sunday. Probably less than 50% chance, but I really hope I can make it work! Do you have special hours this weekend?

Hippo Heaven's avatar

Since you seem to experiment a lot, I am wondering if you have to make a lot of drinks and throw them away? How does that work? Or do you just drink them and try something else the next time?

TootsStansbury 🇺🇦's avatar

Oh, this sounds a little tastier than a Long Island Iced Tea, which I drank once and enjoyed! I was having such a nice time talking to everyone at the bar until I got up to use the restroom and oh! The floor is like a funhouse! I did void the contents of my stomach in the doorway of an important military client.

Can you get a DUI for sleeping it off in the backseat?

irish379's avatar

in Massachusetts yes

SkeptiKC's avatar

That didn't used to be the case here in Washington state, but now I'm feeling a bit paranoid and will have to research current statutes.

Squibsquab's avatar

If you do that in California, you’ll get a DUI.

Smoke O'Possum's avatar

Not in Wisconsin, although it gets a bit sticky if you've got the keys in the ignition to keep the car warm in winter. Then is comes down to whether the cop and/or you decide to be an asshole, or so I'm told.

One of your shorter treatises on cocktails and the liquors involved - but it was still interesting. I've always doubted that I would pursue any of the liquors you recommend, but I did run across, and bought, some Lukasusowa potato vodka recently, solely because I recognized the name from one of your earlier posts. It's probably not a "good thing" for me ( to like an alcoholic beverage so much ), but I appreciate that I learned something from your posts.

Rooster Cogburn's avatar

I like alcoholic beverages but they don’t always like me back

You always get me with your bitters, Hooper. Cynar is such an interesting one.

"M"'s avatar

Cynar sounds like an action movie

oblivias's avatar

I live in Mexico. I have tequila and mezcal and Cointreau. I doubt they will sub for any of the ingredients.

Marty Smit's avatar

You can’t order them? Import?

oblivias's avatar

Probably, but imported booze is very expensive. I don't want to pay Dom Perignon prices for Freixnet.

Yow. It must be a flaw in my tastebuds - I respect your expertise and judgment, Hooper, but I bought some Planteray original dark recently that I can't drink. It tastes like rubbing alcohol and cheap plastic bathmats to me. I will save my Cynar

MINNEAPOLIS “SPIDER-MAN” PLEADS NOT GUILTY, CLAIMS SELF-DEFENSE

William Nicholas Love, known as the “Minneapolis Spider-Man,” pleaded not guilty today to misdemeanor fifth-degree assault stemming from his confrontation with Jake Lang outside Minneapolis City Hall.

Love’s attorney said the defense will argue self-defense and defense of others. He called it an assault when Lang’s group drove two vehicles onto a public sidewalk toward the people of Minneapolis, arguing that Love and others had a right to defend themselves.

Court records list Jack Rice and Kevin Riach as Love’s attorneys. His next court appearance is a pretrial hearing scheduled for November 19 at 8:30 a.m. in Hennepin County.

"They're eating the DATA! THEY ARE EATING THE DATA!"

The Trump regime (+ RFK Jr et al) have dumped databases across many agencies, plus purging web sites of 'offensive' material (e.g. 'DEI', 'CRT', climate science, vaccine science etc).

It is going to take a friggin' generation to clean out all the Trumpshit and repair the damage the Trump regime has done.

Understand one thing: the US government IT services *never* delete anything. It might not be publicly available, but I'll guarantee it's all on backups.

I would like to believe that but I have my doubts. Like the audio of the Tom Holman $50k Cava bag bribe – I would be surprised if that still exists anywhere.

Q: Where is that beef coming from?

Trump: It's coming from different places, it's coming from Argentina. It's coming from Brazil, it's coming from a couple of other places. It's very clean. It's very good.

Okay, Every stay away from all 'beef' from now on.

About that U.S./Venezuela oil thingie . . .

"For a decade, Venezuelan businessman Alejandro Betancourt has been ensnared in the tentacles of a sprawling Justice Department probe into a sophisticated billion-dollar money laundering scheme that US prosecutors allege embezzled funds from Venezuela’s state-owned oil company known as PDVSA.

In recent months, federal prosecutors in Miami closed the Betancourt investigation on orders from the office of then-Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, they were told, according to two people briefed on the matter. The move came as part of an effort by Trump White House officials and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to enlist Betancourt to engineer a massive new oil deal with Venezuela’s government, the people briefed on the matter said.

Betancourt for years built a lucrative oil business with contracts with the the Venezualan government, first under Hugo Chavez and then Maduro — the source of allegations that he was part of a network of wealthy Venezuelans, known colloquially as Boliburgueses or Bolichicos. The US alleges this network helped Maduro and his cronies steal millions of dollars in Venezuela’s oil wealth and launder it through real estate deals in Miami and in bank accounts in Malta and Switzerland."

Marty Smit's avatar

How is that different than US oil companies? They get leases on public land, pay minimal royalties to the public, and make &$$ hundreds of millions, even $$$$&&&& billions. The US public is really dim-witted about this issue.

Every time I refresh, I know it is liquor, but I see sweet tea. How to make sweet tea. Boil a gallon of water, steep 16 tea bags. It’s the only thing Lipton is really decent for. Add two cups of sugar, cool. Your house will smell good and you will be so caffeinated and hydrated.

I really need to get my ass back to finishing the movie post for Clue. usually I am done by now. Some movies, I get stuck writing about. Some things just flow. So far, Nice Times totally flow.

I am doing so much more writing now. YAY! I spend Thursday writing Nice Times (but collect stories everyday), Friday is the movie post. I have also the Labor Day Matinee of Norma Rae to write.

It is an Absolut privilege and joy to do, but can be head spinning.

That maybe the Absolut.

Our_Man_In_Redneckistan's avatar

Writing is a job like any other. You grind that shit out and polish it until it doesn’t suck.

A federal magistrate judge ruled Friday that the Trump administration must identify the people who came up with the idea for a now-defunct $1.8 billion fund to compensate those who claim they were unfairly investigated by the Justice Department.

The ruling came as part of an ongoing lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Virginia. A former federal prosecutor who was fired by the Trump administration and other plaintiffs challenged the “Anti-Weaponization Fund” as an unconstitutional giveaway of taxpayer dollars designed to benefit President Donald Trump’s political supporters.

Acting attorney general Todd Blanche issued orders establishing the fund in May and scrapping it last month, after the proposed payouts spurred a bipartisan backlash in Congress. But several lawsuits over the plan remain pending in the federal courts. The case playing out in Virginia is the only one to have reached the legal discovery phase, in which the parties exchange evidence to prepare for trial. (Washington Post)

BillEGoatSmile's avatar

That's fuckin' brilliant!

And I believe the FL case is still going on where the judge is considering re-opening the 'suing myself' case of Trump v. IRS, and looking to bench slap the lawyers/parties with Rule 11 sanctions for frivolous litigation, etc.

Weather has been steambath-hot going on a week.

But you know what the upside to hot weather is?

You go to the fruit and vegetable stand, whose whole appeal is that their stuff is locally sourced and always fresh. The downside is that not everything is there all the time. But when it's hot, they got all the lettuce, tomatoes, peppers and other stuff you could want.

That was after a trip to the gourmet bakery, where I grabbed loaves of apple-raisin bread for breakfasts, and seedless rye for everything else. I have nothing against seeds, but none were on offer. That place is like the produce stand -- they got what they got.

The clerk at the bakery wore a genuine, no-shit Catholic schoolgirl uniform, with the pleated plaid skirt and everything. She told me she came to work literally straight from school. Now, how lucky is THAT for that place? You want your bakery to have a "wholesome" vibe (among others), and I just don't know what could be more wholesome than a Catholic schoolgirl behind the counter.

Soon I will choose between several decent options for dinner.

Life doesn't suck.
