I am rather looking forward to the tall tales attendees will tell of having to endure a natural disaster worse than Katrina or Sandy, heroically defying the cruel and unforgiving elements against all odds...in their 6-to7 figure custom trailers with full catering service, their own lavs and showers, their high-end booze and designer drugs. And laugh my ass off, wondering how any of us who got through the original Woodstock ever made it out alive, having shown up with little more than the clothes we were wearing, no food, no water, and an Oz or two of low-THC pot.
Donald Trump's venture into social media with the creation of Truth Social could come to a screeching halt in the near future if the merger with Digital World collapses and he faces ending up with nothing from the deal that has been pending for two years.
According to a new report from the Washington Post, there is a Sept. 8 deadline for the merger to close or be extended and, should it fail, Digital World will be compelled by law to return $300 million to investors.
The Post's Drew Harwell is reporting, "With the $300 million Digital World had already raised from investors, Trump Media & Technology Group, creator of the pro-Trump social network Truth Social, pledged then that the merger would create a tech titan worth $875 million at the start and, depending on the stock’s performance, up to $1.7 billion later," before adding, "Now, almost two years later, the deal faces what could be a catastrophic threat."
I've been sayin' for a while that fElon will eventually merge the social media platform formerly known as twitter with the social disease media platform. After all, they are birds of a feather now.
I'm sure somewhere in the fine print of the NFTs he sells, ownership transfers to the buyers so the morans who bought his NFTs will end up on the hook for the $300M and he will walk away.
I met Jimmy Buffett at Caesar's Palace in Lake Tahoe in 1981 while on a family vacation. I was 18. I remember landing in Reno and Pres. Reagan fired all the air traffic controllers that day...but I digress. For the next 12-15 years I had become good friends with the people around him, Ross Ritto, owner of Sound Image in San Diego who did all the live tour audio, RIP Ross, and I had a little fling with Fingers Taylor for awhile much later on. I feel so blessed to have been able to go to any Buffett concert anywhere and have VIP backstage passes. They loved me and whichever gal pal I brought along because we just treated them as regular people and they were so grateful for that. I remember when I was in college, taking photography classes and at one of the shows I asked Jimmy if I could take photos from my perch at the soundboard. He said, "Thank you for asking!" "Take all you want just don't use a flash". That helped me learn to master low light shooting. Thanks Jimmy!
In 1988 I moved to Key West for about 5 years and got to see Jimmy from time to time down there. As the years rolled on I saw them less and everyone went their separate ways.
I will always be grateful for those years in my youth were I was able to live so large and be a part of all that. And this was BEFORE all that Parrot Head stuff. So many memories, so many of them hilarious. Everyone in Jimmy's organization were good people, real people and I will always treasure those memories and consider myself one of the luckiest people in the world. Rest is Peace Jimmy.
You may not believe me, and you don't have to, but the Fins to left, Fins to right audience dance was started by my and my friend Dara at the Palace Theater inn Louisville KY in 1982.
The World gets lonelier and lonelier these days as so many I know either personally or by their artistry that inspired me & brought joy to so many pass on to the next world.
Thank you for sharing all that. How wonderful! I am not much for bucket lists - or concerts, tbh - but I realized this morning that going to a Jimmy Buffet concert should have been on my bucket list. I regret that I never saw him play. And I am unaccountably sad that he is gone. RIP.
All my photos from those days were film. I've got a file somewhere in a box in the basement. I suppose I'll be pulling those out here soon. Yes, the Buffett concerts were quite the event. Watching a sea of people all dressed in tropical clothes and gear with blow up alligators and all kinds of other stuff was amazing to see.
I know, right? And she has no curiosity. I mentioned the hearing that Meadows had on Monday, and she said what she often says, "Oh, there's so many," meaning that she can't keep all the politicians' names straight.
However, she could always look these things up if she were motivated. She's not motivated. I think she's afraid of what she'll find out.
That's probably a good description. Just last weekend, I was talking to her and her adult daughter about the indictments of the people who broke into the Coffee County voting system. She just shrugged and said, "Well, that's old news." I said, "No, it's not!! They were just indicted this past week! You can't try to overthrow an election just because you don't like the way it turned out! This is SERIOUS!" I was gratified that her daughter said, "It IS serious." Trumpy Neighbor said nothing.
I'm only an hour into my shift and I already got told "Suck a dick, biitch!". I Cackled, and regret that I didn't tell her not to threaten me with a good time.
When I was in college a million years ago, the popular band in our small college town introduced a lot of us to Jimmy Buffet with a couple of songs from Living and Dying in 3/4 Time, Saxophones (they played the sax parts on kazoos) and Brand New Country Star. Unlike most people who achieve fortune and fame, Jimmy never seemed to take himself too seriously. Just kept on having fun and doing fun things with his life and then writing songs and books about it. Life well lived.
I'm a breast cancer survivor, very new to NM, don't know many people, but have kept men at arm's length since my surgery nearly a decade ago. I finally let someone in, it's been about an 8 month attraction, he asked me out, we had a great time, we went out again last weekend, again fuckbonkers good time, he came on pretty strong and I told him I'm a bit vulnerable. He was very romantic all week, asked me out to a lovely place for dinner. It was really nice and I thought maybe, finally it would be all right to let someone in. Until the gal he invited to join us showed up. He had said that a couple we had met previously may be there. Okay. Nope, just this woman. She was cool, I was as gracious as ever, until at the end of dinner she said; "thanks for inviting me." He didn't understand why that would upset me, I asked him; "why do this, why hurt me like this?" He said he was sorry it didn't "work out." Dude, you fucked it up on purpose. Optimism is fleeting, I hope I can get some back. It hurts.
Hey we lost Thalia to Georgia and Morgan to adulting but I'd love to invite you out for drinks this weekend so we don't feel left out with the Wonkmeets elsewhere. Would you be game for connecting at the Albuquerque Press Club?
Okay, I'm officially getting spoiled by room service these last two weekends. I might have to teach Kitteh to cook.
I just had a spinach, onion and cheese omelet and a fruit bowl.
Time to go put on professional clothes. I probably can't lead the training in my big purple robe. Life would be so much easier if you could lead trainings in big purple robes.
I tell them that I'm so proud of their anti-war position, wish them well and tell them there is absolutely zero chance of converting me from atheism. I tell them their time would be better spent elsewhere and wish them success. I usually try to address the youngsters with the leader and be super nice to them. Then I go back inside and they go away.
You're a helluva lot more patient than I am. When the apocalypse cheerleaders show up on our front porch I go into biblical scholar mode and debate their various Buybull prophesies of the brutal end of days they're so certain is shortly forthcoming.
Every damned time they find a reason to excuse themselves to attend to some sudden "issue".
I made this for our party. People fucking LOVED IT.
O/T, but on the bright side, it seems this year's mass masturbation ritual of the opulently rich and childishly shameless, Burning Man, seems to be getting rained out. https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2023/sep/02/burning-man-festival-mud-trapped-shelter-in-place

Buffett's theme song from a great little film from 1975: Rancho Deluxe. Outstanding cast on that one.

Are you telling me that a business entity founded by Donald Trump is failing and will wipe out the investors' moneez?
I'm feeling faint from the shock. Where's that grab bar?

Will Elmo step in?...
Poop.
He'll step in poop again.

His entire existence is a Royal Nonesuch.
Edited to include the plyed yarn. This part is fun as it goes so (relatively) fast.

Very worth reposting to the new JB thread
Can I cut and paste and edit that? LOL

I tried talking to my Trumpy Neighbor yesterday about Mark Meadows.
She didn't know who he is.
This woman watches Fox News probably 12 hours a day, and does not know who Mark Meadows is.
Ignorance is their brand.
I don't know how they live with themselves.
I mean, I KNOW I'm ignorant, but I at least try to learn things.
How strange it must be to live inside such a tiny little bubble when there is such a big world outside of it.
I know, right? And she has no curiosity. I mentioned the hearing that Meadows had on Monday, and she said what she often says, "Oh, there's so many," meaning that she can't keep all the politicians' names straight.

Know your coffee boys.
"watching" FAUX News is probably more like letting the hate wash over you while you go about your daily life...

He hasn't been mentioned there for a while, and the propaganda trains them to remember only grievances.
You're right. She can go on for quite a period of time about Biden grievances, like CHINA.
I'm only an hour into my shift and I already got told "Suck a dick, biitch!". I Cackled, and regret that I didn't tell her not to threaten me with a good time.
The universe is vibrating to the collective internal humming of Jimmy Buffett songs by so many people this morning.
Oops.
not sorry

What amazed me is that he was worth over a billion dollars when he died, how the fuck did that happen?
Unc gave him investing advice?
Resorts make a lot of money, because the people that work there see almost none of the money coming in to them.

I'm so sorry. It especially sucks to make yourself vulnerable and have someone do that to you.
What a jerk.
The walls have gone right back up.
I don't blame you one bit. I too am a breast cancer survivor and I haven't had the courage to date in years.
Hugs. I’m so sorry you won’t through this, but I also think you dodged a bullet there.
Thank goodness it didn't progress any further. What a creep.

Yes. All of this. Team spinach, onion and cheese omelet and fruit bowl and big purple robes as our human uniform.
It would be confusing at first, but once they realized you know what you're talking about they'd get past it.

Has anyone attempted to explain to him that it's not simply a matter of submitting his legal bitch to SCOTUS presuming they'll give it priority?
This is too cool not to share!

some people say you should follow the direction it's leaning. But that's just hearsay...
I know, right?
Does it come with attachments?
I don't understand the question.
Weedwacker, chainsaw, mower blade, etc.
It's a Husqvarna, not a Husqvarna.
I’ll allow it because Yamaha makes motorcycles and musical instruments.
Damn good at both, too. Also.
Ahhhh, it's all so clear to me now.
Just got a visit from the Saturday warriors (Jehovah's?). Nice people. I couldn't help myself. I had to tell them how brave and fucked they are...
I just ask them if they’re ready to let Satan into their hearts
I tell them that I'm so proud of their anti-war position, wish them well and tell them there is absolutely zero chance of converting me from atheism. LOL apocalypse cheerleaders. Best ever Skepti
But they're so cute and earnest. I just tell them we have to get rid of the book. Everyone's using it wrong!...
I just tell them I'm an atheist. That usually shuts down the conversation quickly
My uncle always invited them in for tea and talked to them until they'd be begging to leave. It was actually quite an effective troll move.
How did they receive that news?
It's the ones that send them out I reserve my ire for. I can't imagine driving around from door to door, telling people what they ought to do..
