I think one of the overlooked problems the Trump presidency has created is how it has kind of caused us to mythologize the Obama administration. The constant noise of "what about Obama and/or Hillary" I think has tricked us into defending things that shouldn't be defended.
Obama fucked up on some issues. Notably freedom of the press (as Evan mentioned) and domestic surveillance (also relevant here). Personally, I've been screaming about these issues since even before Obama. If you haven't been, don't fall into their trap; acknowledge that Obama fucked up and that it was an oversight on your part to overlook it until now. Because if you don't, they get to (rightfully IMO) throw it right back at us and deflect away from their own hypocrisy on other issues.
Perhaps pointing out that "Obama did it" is the way to get T to put an end to it. Hahaha except that he'll make an exception on his Obama reversals when it comes to anything relating to the truth coming out about Orange Lie Machine
I am well aware "national security" is Trump's magic phrase. He's figured out he can use it to justify anything. Anything.
I'm surprised to see Booman using that phrase. I don't agree with him, but do acknowledge (to myself) he knows more about Wolfe's position than I do... so I'll keep his conclusion in mind.
I absolutely agree Trump's lies, distortions, and invocations of "national security" are our greatest threat to national security. They are a nightmare. They are far more pernicious and destructive than a terrorist attack.
Not just Trump, it has a long history, going back to before the Cold War. But, as in all things Trump is more clumsy and brazen about it than most previous bad actors.
I suspect there is more to this than meets the eye. Why didn't she inform her editors that her records had been seized, and bring the Times legal department, the ACLU, and who knows what other entities into it to defend her?
People tend to not see an issue until the issue affects them. I would feel more sorry for the media based on this flaw in human nature except that their job is to see an issue and report on it.

Isn't it the job of journalists to make "non-public" and sensitive information public?

They are also hyperactive and hyperbolic but sadly, not hypothetical.

Pick a conservative lie, any conservative lie! (In carnival barker voice).

Nor hypodermiced, with patriotic votes, of course.
