That is only if he was cutting a deal between the USA and another country. Since he was cutting a deal between himself and another country, it’s more in line with bribery. And, because that country is our enemy and said deal involved working with them as they attacked us...

In their hearts. most of them know that. Because just enough students come back to thank them later.

I'm faculty in Higher Ed. I pay into TRS and Social Security. I'll be able to draw both. Truth is, I already had enough quarters in SS before I became faculty.

Which is fortunate for you! I know with teachers, even if they had enough quarters in SS, they can't draw it if they retire in TRS.

Drew Edmondson would be a solid choice and maybe former mayor of OKC Mick Cornett who continued to push the MAPS project (originally proposed by a former mayor) which revitalized OKC. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised that the next governor would be Gary Richardson (a millionaire, personal-injury lawyer - because of course he is) who's running on a platform of eliminating waste and corruption in the gubmint. Nothing yet on his position on the trickle-down tax cuts pimped by our current governor which has devastated our social services and schools like a common West Virginia.

Several of my folks (generally poor and old) on my Meals on Wheels route tell me that their meager SS increase was wiped out by the Medicare increase - and those folks would know.

Ah that splains it.

Status from Charleston: as of a few hours ago, the Capitol was considered to be "at capacity," & no one else was being admitted. Guys! This is HUGE! Mitch isn't just trying his hand at union-busting; he's hoping to erode public support, AND IT'S NOT WORKING. Friends & colleagues of mine who have LONG been involved in government affairs & public policy are saying they've never seen the like of this. It's exhilarating, & it's ABOUT TIME. Here's hoping that the momentum continues into election season!

SJR12 would put a referendum adding language to the state constitution expressly stating that abortion is not a protected right at the state level on the November ballot. If passed, this would allow WV to deny abortion coverage to Medicaid recipients in the state.

On second reading Saturday, democrats offered an amendment creating a special election in July for the referendum. Democrats argued that 1) special elections tend to draw out well informed voters, and 2) if passed, this would enable the legislature to start saving the babies four months earlier (because republicans keep assuring us that they aren't cynically trying to drive god botherers to the polls in November).

The amendment was voted down along party lines. Fuck you, babies aborted by poor women between July and November, they want to save the other babies but not you.

It's almost like they're full of shit.

AFSCME is just about worthless - at least in Ohio - we hadn't had raises in 7 years and when offered 3% were told "well at least it's something." It didn't even cover the cost increase of our health insurance. Just glad to see that the folks are turning out at the WV capitol and it is now at capacity. It's time for us to take back our country and the middle class.

I love teachers. I want them paid adequately, yes, even in WV.

At the national and state/local levels, I'm ASTOUNDED at the incredible depths to which Rs will sink. They're not even TRYING to pretend anymore. And with that nightmare talking yam in the WH, there is just no bridge too far. I get irritated over arguments that the Dems stand FOR nothing, they only stand against the Rs. The reason that perception exists is because fending off these pricks is a full time fucking job, & even more consuming when you're in the minority.

At least they wanted to give state employees a 3% raise. North Carolina has a long history of pitting state employees against teachers, at times giving teachers 3% to 5% raises and state employees an extra week vacation, or a one time bonus of $1,000. Fortunately, it has not resulted in many state employees griping about teacher pay. Retirees really get the shaft with one 1.6% cost of living raise in 9 years. But tens of thousands of state employees, teachers, and state retirees still vote for the Republicans (although Democrats have pulled the same teacher versus state employee games too). I have a hard time figuring out why any of them would do that.
