Trump's secret sauce is that conservatives / Republicans have spent the last 90 years (since FDR's New Deal) railing against government. Reagan crystalized the concept with his "I'm from the government and I'm here to help." So a lot of people have got it into their brains that "government" is all about telling people what they can;t do without noticing that government does do to make their lives better. Like Social Security and welfare checks, clean water, clear air, workplace safety, and cars that don't kill us. Nor does it help that Republicans always make sure that the glass is half empty, promises half kept, and that oligarchs are unrestrained. The last has made our country poor and poor. It's easy to see why people always consider themselves victims.
Being an annoying history nerd, I always have to point out to people that that is not the Confederate Flag, It's the battle standard of the Army of Northern Virginia. The Saltire, or St Andrew's Cross, was adopted because the original Confederate flag too closely resembled the Union flag. The dust and smoke of battle could lead to some disastrous confusion
Although slavery, more correctly the expansion of slavery into new territories, was perhaps the flash point, the Civil War was the culmination of the Federalist v Anti Federalist concept of the United States government, an argument that had raged since the end of the Revolution The Confederacy of course embraced a very Anti Federalist ideology. Trump is an extreme Federalist, so how do you square putting symbols of the Confederacy along side flags, signs etc. displaying your support of Trump?
Stop with the tired states rights arguments. The confederate states had explicit secession documents that said it was over slavery. States rights to do what? Oh, own slaves? Then it was over slavery.
Talking in ways to imply it is about process when it actually is about the content of the policy is a common tactic in a federal system. It's called changing the scope of the conflict and is very effective, highly studied by political scientists. You'll find policy advocates always say that the level of govt that favors them is the "proper" level to deal with the policy. Duh. They say that in order to get their policies adopted, not from some place of principle. That's why the local control fetishists suddenly get all in a lather when some blue city in a red state tries it. It's because they don't believe in local control. They argue for local control when that gets their policies through and against it when it doesn't.
Why ascribe principles to a bunch of assholes who wanted to own people? What is in it for you?
This weekend sucked big time! Sunday morning my BIL wakes me up at 6 am to let me know that he's taking my sister to the ER because she has been bitten by a bat 🦇! Then I stay and take care of their animals. Later I get a call from him that he's in the ER because he wasn't feeling well and the Dr said he has an infected kidney stone and needs surgery to take care of it. Later again I get a call that he has to go to a different hospital, can I bring some stuff up for my sister and get the bat out of his vehicle because the hospital can't test it there to find out if it has rabies. It needs to be taken to a different city. He's still waiting to get a ride to the other hospital for his surgery. So I get that done. Several hours later I get the call to come get my sister because their kid is going to get her because the hospital still hasn't arranged a ride to the other hospital and they were talking about an ambulance ride even though a car ride was all that's needed. He spent 12 and a half hours at that place 10 and a half just waiting for a ride! My sister would tell them what the dr said about a ride for the both of them and got told dr's don't decide the ride the hospital does. They just want more money from an unnecessary ambulance ride. When everyone finally makes it up to the new hospital they can't do any surgery because his infection got worse. He has now spent 2 days at the hospital, hopefully he'll get out today, his kid took the bat to where it's supposed to get tested for rabies so hopefully it's negative so my sister doesn't need to get the shots. It just pisses me off that a hospital can't get it's shit together and get stuff done!! So I had both relatives in the ER at the same time. The critters (two dogs and a cat) are doing fine but are wanting their servants to get back.
It is always someone else's fault. That is the thing we keep missing in all the cletus safaris that have ever been printed. It CAN'T be Trump's fault because then it would be their fault for voting for him.
That is pretty much the entire ethic. It is someone else's fault. Everything. Always.
She's lost her boy-toy, her jets and is hoofed into nowheresville. She keeps only what she's grifted through that $220M ad spend, which is quite a lot, apparently.
Don't see how it would, but then I didn't see how the executive branch could take over the legislative and judicial until it happened either, so whatta I know
Not sure how I missed this post, but my visit at age 7 to LOOORAY CAV'RNS was the bomb.

Edited to change the insult to assholes.

Navigating family through medical bureaucracy sure makes for a fun time doesn't it? Enough to drive you to drink!
Totally! I have some whiskey but have forgotten to have my frustration drink, maybe when everyone gets home I'll have one.
Please do. Myself, I'm thinking about seeking legal remedy from Trump for causing severe harm to my liver.
Totally agree 👍
That was depressing as fuck.
You do paint a picture!

Markwayne Mullin confirmed as DHS pooh-bah.
Fuckin' perfect.
Wonder if Kristi had to surrender her private jets, or if he will req new ones
She's lost her boy-toy, her jets and is hoofed into nowheresville. She keeps only what she's grifted through that $220M ad spend, which is quite a lot, apparently.

She's ambassador to, oh what the fuck is it

Proof that Trump DOES watch ABC despite his screams about how they are the worst
I can't think of a bigger asshole to do it.

These aren't "markets" ... they are betting pools. Kalshi and Polymarket aren't exchanges, they're fucking bookies.

It's all a mechanism to perform grifting games.
Because regular Futures trading isn't scamy enough.
bitter rivalry.
Sure.
I'm thinking Evil Gimli and Evil Legolas.
I was thinking more "probably owned by the same group ultimately, once we peel back the layers of LLMs and whatever they set up to obscure that"
All the way to the bank.
Isn't this why Enron went down?
Well, that and the morons who were running it.

[Chorus]
Tumbrels, tumbrels
Roly-poly tumbrels
Tumbrels, tumbrels
Fill them up, yes
Tumbrels, tumbrels
Roly-poly tumbrels
Tumbrels, tumbrels
Fill them up, yes
[Verse 1]
In the morning, laughing, happy Trumpies
In the evening, knitting as they squeal
--- chorus again ---
[Verse 2]
Ask a Trumpy anything you want to
They won't answer, they are dead
Tumbrels don't care if you voted for Obama once
you're probably lying anyway
I might be a little close to the bone on this one and I'm not sure if I should delete it. I don't want to get 'trix in trouble.
