While part of me concurs, the rest of me hopes that faced with either obeying the law or refusing to take a ten-year-old girl about to have surgery away from her family and consequently losing my job, I would choose the latter. It might be the law, but that doesn’t make it right.
Nothing about this is right. Like I said, the only real solution to this is to change the law to something resembling sane, sustainable, and humane policies. Otherwise anytime the Executive changes parties and is able to shift the enforcement policies, this shit will happen again and again.
It sounds good to say you would quit. I would love to say I would do the same in the same position. But that doesn't pay my mortgage, or car note, or put food on the table or the hundred other things I need to spend money on.
there’s some serious eugenic bs in this administration that scares the fuck out of me. get rid of everything pertaining to special ed, cut medicaid, try to fuck with ADA, and now this. I think it's way more complicated than that. tons of people that work for ICE in texas are actually hispanic and are trying to do the right thing (particularly since spanish speakers are in demand for that job) this american life did a great story about somebody like this

I met a really nice social studies teacher who explained that basically if I wanted to teach history I would have to also teach a bunch of whitewashed lies and half truths. I know that the recruiters for ICE aren't going to share this kind of honesty, but I assume most of these people have a television and the internet. I don't believe the Gestapo had as much access to information as people do now. I'm being unfair overall, but when this story is part of "the letter of the law", I don't believe fairness is a rule of the game anymore.
