Even in this case, Cuomo first tried to give one of his closest cronies control of the investigation.

And he's a COVID spreader, also too.

IKR? I don't think I know anyone who had anything more than a grudging respect for Cuomo when he was giving press conferences at the height of the first wave. And honestly we all went right back to hating him shortly thereafter.

He was perfectly happy to cut actual Dems out of his deal-making meetings between the IDC and the Republicans -- which, many of us noted at the time, specifically meant cutting out Andrea Stewart-Cousins to meet with Jeff Flake instead so, ya know, the white dudes could make the decisions.

I never heard any sexual harassment rumors about him, but I am entirely unsurprised to hear he's gross in addition to being vain and power-grubbing.

Cuomo's ultimate control over how his own investigation unfolds can't just be ignored. He's not like most accused where an investigation is out of their own hands. Getting *him* to allow this investigation was a fight.

So Cuomo has been the person who most needed to be convinced Cuomo deserved an independent investigation. For many, getting to the point where doing what you suggest *can* happen represents a major victory.

But the part where Cuomo is getting criticized by piles of people he has treated like a crap bully over the years is a parallel thing. That's happening now because people who have been cowed into silence can finally speak out with at least a glimmer of hope Cuomo won't destroy their lives. In it's own way, that is almost as troubling as the harassment allegations and directly empowers the dynamic where such harassment can occur with impunity

That aspect of his leadership - and the degree to which it is abusive - feels like less of a criminal investigation issue and more a discussion for wider society about what behavioral standards we are willing to accept from those who serve as leaders. It is possible even if an investigation finds nothing criminal in his behavior, what he is being criticized for is still not acceptable for a person who holds that degree of power. There is no reason that part of the discussion needs to wait for an investigation.

Of course, in the end, the remedy for a politician acting like a non-criminal shitheel (who everyone knew was kind of a shitheel when he ran for office) is probably to ditch his ass in the primary if he tries for a 4th term and run someone less horrible.

This is literally the first time you've come on these threads and criticized Cuomo in all of history .. while you've attacked anyone who has raised criticism.

Now you're going to claim you've always thought Cuomo is scum?

Sure. But bear in mind, Ninja here reacted in a similar way to me when I suggested Cuomo should just acknowledge screwing up and apologize when it was apparent the policy was a mistake.

I mean, Cuomo sent Covid-positive people into *NURSING HOMES* filled with old people. It shouldn't have taken James' report to simply acknowledge it was a horrible choice. But instead it was all a culture war against Bernie Bros who betrayed their own to support that Fox News lady (who dared be upset her husband's parents both died).

So up until about 18 hours ago, Ninja would attack any suggestion Cuomo made mistakes as "Far Left" treason; enforcing these boards a lot like Cuomo himself enforced line-toeing among New York progressives.

Not surprising to find out he's a politically active New Yorker. I imagine pivots like this are why he hides his comment history?

When people were getting all swoony about him in the early days of COVID ("Ooh, I wish he was running for president!" etc.), I kept thinking that his past rep wasn't necessarily that great, was it? But I don't live in NY and don't follow coverage of him day-to-day, so what do I know? Recent stuff coming out is reminding me of those older impressions that I had of him, though. Are his opponents taking advantage of it? You bet. They always will. That doesn't mean the stories aren't legitimate, however.

"we Dems ditched Al Franken, resulting in our senatorial majority now hanging by a thread" Uhhh, the Minnesota seat was retained, easily, and has absolutely zero to do with how the Senate ended up 50/50

[Edit: ANDREW (Pay attention, Mr. Surf!)] Cuomo is no Al Franken, and these circumstances don't really seem to be the same at all. And again, this is on top of the nursing home allegations.

It also helps when other men don't make excuses for them, claim it's not a big deal, insist that the women involved are exaggerating, etc. You can see some really good examples of that kind of behavior right now just by scrolling up slightly.

Guys, please stop covering for assholes. Being in the same party doesn't excuse their behavior, it doesn't make it more likely that the women are lying, it doesn't automatically mean that this is a hit piece by Republicans, and even if it is a hit piece, what does that matter if the allegations are true?

I used to post here a lot until I got repeatedly trounced in the non-comments for believing a woman who claimed that a Democrat who held public office in a swing-ish sort of state had sexually harassed her, an allegation which turned out to be almost certainly very much true. Apparently my sin was pointing out that the Democrats trashing his accuser, including people here at Wonkette, sounded an awful lot like every Republican who trashed Christine Blasey Ford during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, and that was enough to get people shit-talking at me so much that I stopped even reading the non-comments at all for over a year, and I still hesitate to scroll down this day. I still stand by my statement, though, and people are still trashing the victims right here in this post right now; again, all you have to do to see it is just scroll up slightly.

And the worst part is that I can't even remember which Democrat it was that they were defending, because there have been so many that have sexually harassed people while other male Democrats, whom I would really like to be able to trust to be on the victims' sides in these kinds of situations, have continued to be on the attackers' sides and made excuses and talked shit about the victims because the attacker happens to be a Democrat. It's not okay.

Whatever happened with all those court cases where she lied, and claimed to have been an expert, when she testified in them?
