Hey, um, wait, didn’t Michael Cohen claim to be on vacay in Italy when it was suspected he was up to no good in Prague? IIRC, he posted a pic of the stamp on his passport to prove it. Makes you wonder if maybe Mikey didn’t have to bother with Prague at all to meet with Russian cutouts.
This is going to get much, much worse. There will be arrests, and chaos, and more blatant lies. I cannot see how, at this point, knowing now how far this troika is willing to go to bend global reality to their purposes, this does not end in violence somehow. What’s going to happen when one of them gets arrested? White Nationalist groups are no doubt itching for something like that to justify an uprising. Not just democracy but lives could be in danger. This is getting scary.
It's long since past getting scary: it's straight up scary. We're well and truly in the soup. There's no way we get through this without violence---how much, and how sustained, being the only question that remains. The Murdochs, the dark money billionaires, and the Republican political leadership, all seem to believe they're so close to the finish line there's no pulling back now: so they're doing things that would have seemed unthinkable only a few years ago.
It's possible the institutions of our democracy are strong enough to withstand, or at any rate to limp through, this moment, which will represent the third massive fracture the country has confronted since the founding (the first having been the civil war, the second having been the civil rights/human rights movement of the 1960s, and the reactionary right establishment's coercive and violent response).
Or maybe not. We'll know soon enough. My own inclination is to fight back, even if it seems to be a losing fight.
