If we stop Nestle and friends from siphoning off billions of gallons for bottled water and sodas,it would be nice.

Simpler, but deadly. Congress passed the Militia Act of 1903, which ended the 'minuteman' model for militia. The only legal militia is the National Guard. Heller is an insult to our Constitution

"THE big moment for me ... has to be the day they marched us out onto the drill field wearing, for the first time, our full combat gear. Which was very exciting, you know, a little heavy; all the boots, and the helmets and stuff and we were a little nervous ‘cause the rumor was we were going into combat that afternoon. You know. Right there in Kansas! Those of you who have been in will know how plausible such a rumor can sound even in the middle of Kansas. " ~ Tom Paxton, "Bayonet Rap"

It's a lot more complicated than most of the commenters here think, thanks anyway. Water issues in the West (I'm in Oregon, previously in California) are serious, and need serious policy changes. The Bundys are a bunch of yahoo assholes, sometimes dangerous ones, and I'd never stand up for anything they do. They're making the problems worse with their antics. But we have real problems that need real solutions, and until the whole picture is coped with, instead of piecemeal, half-assed, measures, the water wars will get worse.

An interesting thing is that not only do they hate the BLM movement, thay also hate the BLM.That is, the Bureau of Land Management. While these western reich-wingers cetainly know what the latter is, I think it might freak out some eastern MAGAts and showed them all the BLM areas in Oregon and other western states on a map.

There was a clue on Jeopardy! recently about how Lake Mead was created. The correct response is by a dam (on the Colorado River). I couldn't help but think that stupid looney MAGAt evangelicals would probably say "Who is God?"

Cannot recommend this book highly enough!

Thanks to the centrifugal pump, places like Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas had thrown on the garments of fertility for a century, pretending to greenery and growth as they mined glacial water from ten-thousand-year-old aquifers. They'd played dress-up-in-green and pretended it could last forever. They'd pumped up the Ice Age and spread it across the land, and for a while they'd turned their dry lands lush. Cotton, wheat, corn, soybeans -- vast green acreages, all because someone could get a pump going. Those places had dreamed of being different from what they were. They'd had aspirations. And then the water ran out, and they fell back, realizing too late that their prosperity was borrowed, and there would be no more coming.-Paolo Bacigalupi, The Water Knife
