Trump of all people should understand that losing money on an acquisition doesn’t always mean you lose money in the long run. I doubt they declared bankruptcy to do it but it’s perfectly possible to resell a business at a loss and cash in, like when you eliminate competition.

1) Trump is a narcissist2) Trump craves approval and adoration because of 1.3) As a narcissist he is incapable of empathy, of understanding or even imagining how other people feel4) he needs some way of measuring their adoration- as a man whose every relationship is transactional he understands things he gets from other people as indicators of their love for him5) sums of money are countable5a) just like television ratings.

Trump considers the popularity of a thing to indicate its rightness. He doesn't consider facts, or how relevant the popularity might be to the subject in question- if people like it, it must be right. He is loved by people, and he is always right, so this must be a good method of measurement- after all, he is always right.Ratings are his preferred metric, but as that doesn't really make sense for a newspaper (though he constantly claims papers he dislikes have shrinking readerships) he goes to his other preferred metric- money.

He assumes popularity equals truth. He craves popularity. This is why the core of his lies about his abilities in business and politics is his personal charm. He considers himself a great negotiator because he considers himself charismatic and charming. He believes, insofar as he believes anything, that his diplomacy on major geopolitical issues will be a yuge success just because other leaders will like him.

For the NYT to be unpopular, for him, would be the equivalent of them being "fake news". He knows it is popular. So he has to attack elsewhere. Money is a token of people's adoration. To be bad with it is to prove you don't deserve it. To not deserve it is to prove you are "a loser" and thus not liked, not adored, and so wrong.

It's most telling that the execrable deal Acosta approved was one that involved stigmatizing these teenagers as "prostitutes." This Cabinet is a disgusting barrel of slime, but Acosta is at the very bottom.

"Fake news!" and the story dies next week. I'm not sure what drives some voters, but a general sense of human morality doesn't seem to be it.

You can dig around on the Twitters and find screenshots of it, but it was a real photo of Trump shaking hands with Reagan at the WH, with a fake quote attached of Reagan saying that at the time, it felt like he was the one shaking the President's hand.

Just saying, but an elected official who uses the word 'degenerate' to describe human beings - in this case, non-criminal citizens of his own country - should be automatically stripped of his office. Let's call this the Adolf Hitler precedent.
