Left: Pretend Cop Robert Bates; Right: Real Actual Dead Person Eric Harris, shot to death by Pretend Cop Robert Bates Now that we've finally charged a murderous cop with murder, it's time to get back to the usual routine of cops just plain shooting people for the hell of it, or because in the heat of the moment they mistook their pistol for their taser, or because they're incompetent wealthy guys who gave a bunch of money to the local Sheriff's office so they could play at being Real Police. Or in the case of
Bates is being charged with manslaughter. There are a couple of deputies that I wish were facing the same charge for their indifference to the man's injuries. He deserved to go prison, of that I am sure, but he did not deserve to be painfully executed by those deputies and this Paul Blart with money.
As Tulsa Sheriff’s deputy Buck Turgidson put it, “Well, I, uh, don’t think it’s quite fair to condemn a whole program because of a single slip-up, sir.”
"I'm not saying we won't get our hair mussed..." well at least that guy. He might get a little mussed. The rest of us will be OK.
Look for them to pass laws exempting such footage from sunshine laws, allowing them to keep the most embarrassing and incriminating videos out of the public eye. I seem to recall a story about cops looking for software to quickly and automatically blur people's faces in videos, purely out of privacy concerns, of course. If all else fails, they can just say "whoopsie, I forgot to turn it on!", and have a meaningless "demerit" placed in their file.
When you're on the ground, face down, someone's weight on your back makes it difficult for you to breathe. This will make damn near anyone struggle involuntarily to try to take a breath, which the cops can then call "resisting" and use as an excuse to respond with more violence. Is it cynical of me to think that cops know this and do it on purpose?
Actually the Tulsa County Sheriff's department is always asking for more and more money (which they get) but now that the local population knows they are getting subsidized by all these rich wannabe Barney Fifes I think they can afford to reduce their budget.
I never heard of someone killed by getting shot in the arm, unless maybe they let him bleed to death over a really extended time. I find it hard to believe he got shot in the arm, and nowhere else.
This is what happens when you answer your taser one too many times.
'...Bates was a “highly regarded” member of the reserves.' I'd be willing to bet it involved him bringing doughnuts in for roll call.
Buck Turgidson? No way...
Nazi pig

But at least he knows his "stun" gun works now!
Barney Fife wanted to feel like he was "helping".

And by complete coincidence, he said the exact same thing.

Their liability insurance may be going up soon though.
Or the stream of blood coming from his armpit - where a lot of big blood vessels live?

He's shot in the armpit by someone standing over him while he's face down on the ground?
