I was taking a medical ethics course years back in the US Army. One day the topic was "If we have treatments that work but are so expensive that we can't afford them for everybody, how do we decide who gets what treatments?"
About one third of the class refused to accept in principal, for the sake of argument, that this situation could ever come about. Their "argument" went like so:"Human life is precious! We can't put a cap on its financial value!""But we may not have enough resources - medicine, trained personnel, etc.""We'll find a way!""How do you do that?""We refuse to admit that we might not have enough money or drugs or tools!"
Basically, in a class of EMTs and nurses, we had a third who were too "nice" to do proper triage, and therefore, given a bad situation, they would have allowed or caused unnecessary deaths.
So, I can't be the only one who occasionally sees a picture of Donald Trump and their mind suddenly screams, "HE IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!!" and then you feel like vomiting and then your brain shorts out and you are distracted by like, kittens on the internet because it's literally hard to accept with your logical human mind that that is our reality, even though it's been hideously true for 3 years and then you go through that cycle again every few days/weeks when you're confronted with his odious face...right?

This is true. But when there have been no strikes before, it can be hard to say "Enough is enough; you're out!"
