Thanks for the correction. I confess I relied on wonkette's brief overview for my information. As reliable as this site is, it's useful to remember that primary sources are the best place to go to form conclusions, rather than staying in the bubble, which just reinforces prejudices. (And yes, I know that understanding that makes me a danged librul)

Well, at least if Arecibo is down, that telescope won't pick up the meteor headed our way. They say you never hear the one that hits you...

Handsomely spoken, House. Another thing that makes you a danged librul is the ability to type the words "Thank you for the correction". Conservative's operating systems will autocorrect the first word to "Fuck". My reply was slightly grouchy because I feel let down by the sloppy reporting on this issue. I am both an experienced contract auditor and an experienced construction contractor. I really found nothing objectionable about the contract in light of the circumstances surrounding it. We, the left, jumped on it because of assumptions that Puerto-Ricans are all corrupt and that a two-year-old company couldn't possibly be run by someone with twenty years experience We got taken and I don't know who did it

Their sorry, like my bad.

I assumed Zinke and Whitefish were corrupt, not the Puerto Ricans.

I've read Louis CK admitted it and is getting cut no slack. There is just not a good resolution to this, although I know it's going to slide over into witch hunt territory.

"I bet we could GUESS who's going to be unmasked next" is what I actually said. Not "Jon Stewart is definitely guilty." I'm GUESSING Jon because I'm in the business and we hear rumors. I was GUESSING about people that we've all have heard rumors about, or who, sub rosa, has that kind of "vibe." It's a nasty business and men behave really, really badly, and IT WAS A GUESS. Not a pleasant guess, but a guess.

On the one hand it is sad the national Repubs are not supporting Moore because he is, well, Moore, and the allegations of the 14-year-old are just an excuse. On the hand, any tactic that keeps Moore out of the Senate is just great!

It has to be pretty much everyone involved for corruption to work. I actually think there were three other factors more important. First is that Whitefish is 50% owned by a Brazilian transformer company. Considering equipment lead times, that could be significant. Second is that they were willing to start with much less money up front than the only other company to bid at the time. $3.4 million as opposed to $25 million. Third is that Whitefish was willing to contract with PREPA, who had declared bankruptcy some six months previously and at the time, FEMA had not stepped up to guarantee the rebuilding. This was very much a risk equals return situation for Whitefish. All the big boys were waiting offshore for FEMA to step up before they would even talk to PREPA.There are sufficient safeguards and internal controls written in to the contract to be audit-able and responsive to the situation on the ground. If this agreement is otherwise okay, there is no need to assume corruption just because we all hate the current regime.

If Jon Stewart was a pig I will bet it was before he got married. If you look at videos of him before his marriage the creep-o-meter pings a bit, but after his marriage I don’t feel it. I would like to believe that people have the ability to grow and change. I think Jon Stewart is one of those people. In contrast all the other outed pigs have continued without flagging their disgusting behavior and mistreatment of others.
