I apologize, it’s late and as much as I like Evan, I skimmed some of the list. Is South Park and creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker on there? It was a very tough year, and most journalists to the left of Bari Weiss and entertainers to the left of Kid Rock and Gutfeld are under attack. Jimmy Kimmel got temp-cancelled for saying a true statement about the right desperately blaming a shooting on anyone but a conservative. That remark, which had almost nothing to do with the victim, actually caused the FCC troll to poop his pants and threaten to use the force of the government to destroy a late night talk show. So South Park, which inked a $1.5 billion deal with wingnut-owned Paramount, showed some guts by basically covering Trump’s administration with straight reporting and plenty of tiny, cartoon micro penis. I have problems with how Stone and Parker pretend the “extreme left” bothers them just as much as Nazism does, because while radical or violent leftism is rare in America, Trumpism and all its cruelty is not (remember Chris Wray’s testimony about the myth of violent leftism?)
Parker and Stone did address how anti-Trump the show is now, by stating that they are simply commenting on culture, and Trump and MAGA are far more a part of everyday cultural fabric than conservatism was in the past. No argument there, but being “woke” or being a fascist aren’t simply opposite sides of the same coin. Fascism is a dangerous political and economic philosophy that employs oppression, inequality and violence to destroy democracy. Woke is about acceptance, equality, kindness, tolerance, social awareness and respect for individuality. Parker and Stone want to poke fun at liberals, fine. But the stakes are far, far higher and more dire when lampooning fascism. Maybe they know that all too well. If so, they probably deserve some credit for what they did this year. Anyone standing up to this regime and refusing to submit does.
