Loved your bullet points; thanks for the laugh! And I'm really, really glad I live in Illinois, so I don't have to bug my Senators (pretty much) about ANYTHING!

I'm hopeful that there will be a low voter turnout among the Reichstag in November. Even more hopeful that it will be non-existent. Sadly, I have two R Senators, so I don't hope for much there.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

I have two R Senators. I plan to remind them that Democratic women are more likely to not change their names when they get married as Republican women and that Democrats are more likely to be able to obtain the necessary documents proving citizenship than Republicans because we're more organized.

I'm curious about one aspect that the polls don't get into -

After more than a decade of this bullshit, what's the enthusiasm level, even among the cultists? I know it's high with the base, but are these scumbags gonna be able to incite the same level and breadth of hatred with the same old tactics?

Immigrants are eating their pets, immigrants are committing fraud.... blah blah fucking blah. What percentage of the cult is still incited by this? Surely even some of them are getting tired of the same fucking song being played over and over again?

BTW, a "Real ID" driver's license will not suffice to register to vote if the SAVE Act passes. Instead, you need an "Enhanced Driver's License" with a flag on it, not a star. Only 5 states offer those in the entire country:

New York, Vermont, Washington, Michigan, and Minnesota.

Funny how MAGA want to require us to have an ID that 45 states don’t issue...

Schmannity's avatar

I'm ok with letting those 5 states decide.

I'm glad you said "call your Democratic Senators." If I call Barrasso and Lummis I might lose braincells.

Sure, they all hate him NOW. But that still doesn't mean they would have voted for the scary woke woman. She was never crystal-clear about whether or not she'd worked at McDonalds! Which is WAY worse than child rape!

PINTO-INSPIRED PERFORMANCE

Inside the fiery, deadly crashes involving the Tesla Cybertruck -- THE GUARDIAN

Sallyfemina's avatar

That's a libel on Pintos. Per Capita/sales, they had orders of magnitude fewer fatalities. And installing a fix in very little time could be done by any mechanic (dealers did it free), with no wholesale restructuring of the cars, nor so much denial, and of course the door handle design worked fine.

But Ford's a real car company. And while it might have been founded by a Nazi, it wasn't run by one by then.

Hank Napkin's avatar

Had an acquaintance, one of those perpetual fuck-ups (my wife caught me with the delivery boy can I crash at yours?) and during the night, while crashing at mine, his Pinto was repossessed.

Sallyfemina's avatar

You had to really be a fuck-up to get a Pinto repo'd. It's not like they cost like a Mercedes or even a Cadillac.

I'm tired of the details. Let's all feel confident in the broad strokes and understand that details will follow once the sentences are passed.

This fucking guy. He is playing with a model airplane while sitting at the Resolute desk.

Whooooosh... pewpewpew. Bing boom!

Just like Churchill did.

sniffing model airplane glue could help explain some things, though.

Daniel O'Riordan's avatar

Sniffing airplane glue would probably make him lucid.

Hey everyone, someone probably already mentioned this, but they're comparing apples and oranges here. One of the measurements is the public's approval of his policies and actions as president, and the other is choosing him vs. Black-Indian-American-woman-Democrat person to be the next president. I know his approval has gone down, but I don't think the prejudices of low and middle income White and Hispanic people have gone down that much.

My Democratic Senator is Fetterman, so yeah.

Given the efficacy of a Trump endorsement lately, I’m not convinced that “I WILL NEVER (EVER!) ENDORSE ANYONE WHO VOTES AGAINST ‘SAVE AMERICA!!!’” is actually a threat.

Phil Berger gerrymandered a whole state to try to swing one district (which may cost him 2 others) JUST to get Dear Leader’s imprimatur, and then spent $10 MILLION in a legislative (state senate) PRIMARY for a seat HE’S HELD SINCE 2011 — AND STILL LOST! Full disclosure, that race is going to a recount, probably more than one, and may end up in litigation before it’s over, but when the votes were tallied, Berger was DOWN by 23 votes.

So that’s kind of like threatening an 86 year old man with life in prison. Not as effective as it would have been 50 years ago.

oscarphile's avatar

Every day, every hour, his threats and endorsements mean less.

Brian McCurdy's avatar

He did this to himself, every last nasty bit of it.

And he looked especially out of it the other day ooh-ing and ahh-ing at that Spruce Goose model plane, slurring like an idiot. They must jingle keys at him in meetings when they want him to shift focus. I think he's been on autopilot for years and the only reason more people don't realize it is he's mastered his game show voice. The lights upstairs are very, very dim.

Other than Trump, I don't think anyone in MAGA ever thought for a second the legislation would pass. In fact it might be that not passing is the real plan because it will excuse Republican losses, allow Trump to screech at Mike Johnson to not seat the winner (he'd do it without any screeching) and give him justification, at least to his base, to ignore anything that the Democratic majority might do once seated by the courts (not that he follows congress or the courts anyway). Hopefully the Dems will have a plan for this come November.

Robert Eckert's avatar

"allow Trump to screech at Mike Johnson to not seat the winner" Mike Johnson will have nothing to do with seating the winners of the November midterms. The new Congress is sworn in by clerks who receive the certifications from the states, and then the House proceeds as its first order of business to choose a Speaker, hopefully not Johnson again.

Colbert Thorenson's avatar

Sure, but MAGA will always do as much as you can't stop them from doing. I think the plan is red states just won't certify any dems who might win and then they apparently have some Jan 6-level bs theory that speaker can refuse to seat any others if their wins are somehow challenged.

Robert Eckert's avatar

What coco said, and also the Speakership expires. There simply is no Speaker at the start of a new term, and the clerks who swear in the new members have no reason to pay any attention to the former Speaker: they will just do their jobs regardless.

Colbert Thorenson's avatar

Huh, I feel like a half-empty house that doesn't do anything would be a lot better for Trump than one controlled by Democrats

Robert Eckert's avatar

But if it is red states forfeiting their representation in the House rather than seat their minority of Democratic winners, the control by the Democrats would be even firmer.

coco lurks from home's avatar

What you're missing is that the current seated representatives' terms expire regardless of whether their states decide to certify new winners or not. IOW, a state refusing to certify its winners doesn't mean the current holder of that seat gets to stay on - it simply means the seat will be empty.
