…and the winner was: none of the above 🙀

I'm hearing people chatter about Doug Jones also too...

He prosecuted racists and domestic terrorists, calms the fears of "moderates" in and out of the party, would make Tommy Tuberville's head shatter, and we'd be able to spend our leisure time arguing over which Doug in the White House orbit counts as First Doug of the United States.

Pat Toomey, the senior Republican senator from Pennsylvania, would make a 3D chess pick. Shapiro, as governor, could replace him with a Democrat; Harris would reach across the aisle; and maybe Toomey's ambition would outweigh his worst impulses.

The other option for this strategy is NC's Ted Budd. His senior, Thom Tillis, is too much of a raging authoritarian dick. But Budd might be swayable.

Reason #6,000,000 why I'm a democrat -

We can't figure out which one of our excellent choices for VP should be the one whereas the republicans had to pick JD Vance or a different David Duke clone.

I vote for Weird Al as USA VP.

One thing's for sure, there's a lot more Democratic enthusiasm for this campaign today than there's been in a long while.

Robert Reich is recommending Mark Kelly and looking at the pros and cons above, he seems like a good choice. Here is what he had to say:

"My recommendation for Harris’s Vice President is Mark Kelly. Kelly is the perfect response to JD Vance. Kelly has served America as a U.S. Navy combat pilot, a NASA astronaut, and now as a U.S. Senator for Arizona. He is the son of two police officers. He attended public schools from elementary school all the way through graduate school. His wife, Gabrielle Giffords, was a rising member of congress when shot and almost killed by someone who should not have possessed a gun, and she is now one of the nation’s leading advocates for responsible gun regulation. Arizona is an important battleground."

Kelly is a good mix between the heart's choice and the reason's choice. If only my heart were speaking I'd go 100% mayor Pete.

So here’s my take on selection of a running mate for the Harris campaign.

> It can’t be a Governor or a Senator currently in office or set to run in this cycle. We can’t run the risk of losing a seat, thereby giving up Congress or a State to the extremists. The exception to it being a Governor, is if (s)he comes from a blue state which could easily fill the office with a Dem.

> Gavin Newsome might fit that bill but it’s still a risk and his experience level is not strong.

> A cabinet member would be a better option, since the positions are appointed by the president. Pete Butigeg would be an excellent choice based on his intellect and political savvy, but the homophobes might turn away from the ticket. I’m concerned the party is going to fuck this up and get it wrong!

A governor or a senator from a state where a special election would be callled, or an appointment made in the case of senator.

Gavin Newsom and Kamala are technically from the same state, and I think the Constitution says, "uh, uh, no."

Pete for Secretary of State! If he doesn't know a language he'll learn it.

The list is incomplete without a shout out to Katie Porter. And she's available.

She is from Ca, so while not literally ruling her out, it rules her out as Ca's 50-something EC votes would only be allowed to vote for Harris or Porter and not both.

I get the feeling AOC's ambitions are legislative, not executive.

She's probably eyeing Nancy's old gig with more interest.

It’s Shapiro, although I am a big Roy Cooper booster. It has to be Shapiro, because Pennsylvania. Trump is inexplicably 5+ points ahead in North Carolina. Inexplicable to me, I guess, because I live in the urban sprawl and sometimes forget about the vast, hick-ified hinterlands east and west of me.

How are we feeling about Corey Booker?

We don't need Cory to bring NJ to the dance and I like him just fine as my Senator. Once we finally kick Menendez to the curb we'll have that nice Andy Kim to join him, too.

DEI ticket. Is what they will say. Fuck it, let them say it.

I think it should be Pete. He knows how talk to a good chunk of the Republican base.

My ultimate fantasy: Kamala and AOC. They would slay. And AOC turns 35 on October 13 this year.
