Voluntary rent control is something everybody already has. Why would they need to pass a law to get that?

This Wu in no woo! Good stuff! When public transit agencies actually examine the costs associated with capturing fees, they are often surprised when they find out the fees sometimes barely cover those costs, at which point making rides free is pretty much a no-brainer.

“There are no secrets. ICE agents, along with other federal law enforcement partners, are making immigration arrests. That is no secret. They are arresting individuals who are here illegally, which is a violation of federal law.”

So, a legal immigrant studying at Tufts, Rumeysa Ozturk, who was kidnapped off the streets of Boston by masked ICE agents that refused to wear badges and immediately sent thousand of miles away to Louisiana (and who would have been deported by for quick action by the ACLU) for the crime [checks notes] of co-writing an op-ed that was critical of the Israeli government starving and killing Palestinians is a violation of federal law.

Since they can't find any illegal immigrants who actually committed crimes, maybe they should use all that money and manpower to go after the corruption of the TACO administration instead?

It's easier to turn legal residents whose locations you know into illegal immigrants, then nab them, than it is to find the dangerous illegals they claim to be protecting us from.

So, Trump just dropped an EO targeting Biden and alleging that there were presidential policies enacted that Biden was not aware of and allegedly enacted by his aids. Now Robo Blondi has been tasked to investigate with full force of DoJ.

Does Trump really wanna flip over that particular rock ?

I saw that EO. It doesn't diminish the reality that under Trump, and his first DOJ, and William Barr, the Rikers Island Prison Visitors Log book has (rather coincidentally, but never surprisingly) disappeared and never found. As well, all the Prison's video camera's never fould out who was the last person (s) to visit, a not dejected prisoner. And if he was a threat to himself, nobody thought to update the security on him? What a VERY strange and unusual set of coicidences. Especially if they covered up detailed information about the current President's illegal activities. But hey, what am I talking about, a senile and demented 82 year old former President and the people surrounding him didn't run to the Press to provide every little detail, even though it would have, once again, helped the current President. "Oooooooo, it makes me wonder....it really makes me wonder"!

It's lovely to see this happening in an American city. I was rather dismayed in Paris to find that despite major advances by former mayor Bertrand Delanoë and his successor, the increasingly unpopular Anne Hildalgo, the RATP, which runs the Metro and buses, has completely bungled mass transit fares, which have become much more expensive than before. But worse is that it used to be that you could get a Pass Navigo and charge all kinds of transit on it. Now, if you want a weekly pass, you have to pay 5 Euro to obtain the pass THEN you buy the weekly pass which runs from Monday through Sunday.

But if you arrive on a Thursday, for example, you don't want to buy a weekly pass, but you can also no longer get a "carnet" of 10 tickets or load individual tickets onto your 5 Euro Pass Navigo. Now you must pay 2 Euro for a DIFFERENT Pass Navigo on which you can load a number of tickets which, for reasons no one could explain to us, no longer work on the buses.

And for either passes, if you want to buy your pass and ride immediately, you must first go to a photobooth, get and pay for photos, trim the one you like if you happen to have scissors with you, and apply the photo to the back of your pass.

So we're already up to nearly 10 Euro without the actual fares. And if there's no photo booth in the station at which you buy your pass(es) and you use the pass anyway, you run the risk of a fine of 35 Euro if you're controlled. And controls were out in full force.

Returning to the airport, I could not use my weekly Navigo to buy a ticket for the RER because it was a Monday, and so I'd need to buy either a pass for the week or buy another 2 Euro card on which to load the single airport trip.

"Mais c'est l'arnaque totale!" I said to the last agent.

He replied, "Bah, ouai. C'est comme ca."

I did make it to Bordeaux, which has a splendid system of cool-looking trams that were among the easiest transit systems I've encountered. During daylight hours they run every ONE minute!

And I was so hoping to make it to Strasbourg on this last trip, but there is never enough time. I expect to be back before the end of the year if world events permit.

Bordeaux is lovely. I've used their trams which are similar to Strasbourg's. Nice also has a good, very inexpensive transit system called Lignes D'Azur. Hopefully, I'll see you next time.

Our Metro cards work of buses and mass trans trains. Click, click. And since we are seniors all a nice fare costs. We took the bus and train to and from the Ms' bazebawl park last night.
